My daughter is 2 and a half and she usally goes through different fazes of movies that she likes to watch, she went from disney movies to super hero movies ( spider-man, superman, supergirl, hulk ext. ) to dancing movies. Now she has a thing for horror movies, mostly Jason and Freddy movies, as soon as I come home from work she pulls the DVD'S out of the rack so I can put them on for her. I really don't like putting them on for her but if I don't she starts to cry and it makes me feel really bad, I explain to her that their only movies and she doesn't seem to be afraid when shes watching the movies and on most of the bad scenes I cover her eyes. Now recently i've noticed that shes tossing and turning and sometimes whining while shes sleeping. What can I do to make her forget about these movies and to get back to watching sesame street and barbie ? And is their anything I can do to get her to sleep peacefully again ?

2 points: 1) Who's the parent? It's your job to provide an appropriate enviornment, etc. You give her options you're ok with and then let her choose. 2) Why so much tv? Television isn't good for kids. (At the 2 hours movie length.) She should be watching 15-20 snippets of Sesame Street.... at the most. Feature length films are not good. She should be looking at books, playing, etc. Japaneese and British studies are showing the television actually "rewires" the brains of young kids. Basically, if you think about it, tv moves at a much faster pace than the child's real world. You're speeding up her brain to the point that she can't process the information correctly. This leads to problems such as ADD. CUT THE TV to less than 15 mins a day.

You are the ADULT!!! Until a two year old can jump and punch you in the face, I think you control the viewing choices.

Stop giving into her! She cannot process this information or discern the difference between reality and fantasy.

I work at a school and this sure answers some questions I had about some of the psychotic kidergardeners we have seen lately!

If she crawled into your room and found your "stash" of porn (hypothetically) are you gonna let her watch that too? I guess if she whines long enough she wins...

Lol, I went through the same thing, and with the same movies. Tigger was 2, also, around 31/2, he decided he didn't like them anymore because he was scared and now he won't watch them. I guess it's just a phase they go through.
