What I mean by this is, Why do people debate over religion. That is a very touchy topic, so why not have your own beliefs and just leave it at that?

Because at some level these people are insecure about there only beliefs. And the only way they can releave this insecurity is by demoting and demaining other peoples beliefs.

people have been arguing for centuries over religion. The word religious means: 1 : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity
2 : of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances
3 a : scrupulously and conscientiously faithful

In our home, Football is our Religion! Christianity is our faith. If you're talking about Christianity, well, that is the big debate and it should not be so. The Pharisees who hated Jesus argued and accused him against their religion. People use the term Christian very loosely, it originally named those who followed Christ's teachings.. Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. (when Barnabas found Paul) And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.. Since King James ordered the Bible translated to English so it would be available to us, the King James Bible has been rewritten and revised a hundred times over to fit the beliefs of different people. If you believe in the God who created the world, the only authority or reference you have is His word, the Bible. So if you do believe, you need to know what He wants for us, and what he expects from us. It's those who don't want to be accountable to the God who created the universe and everything in it who make up their own gods and their own rules. Some don't believe and some choose not to believe out of anger or self righteousness .. Act 28:27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.. It's certainly easier to have my own beliefs, I can do whatever I want and justify it all. But in the end I will still answer to God.. Rom 14:11 For it is written, [As] I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.. It is touchy, but in my opinion, that's why it's so touchy, it comes down to people not wanting to be accountable to God. This, I'm sure is a 'touchy' response to your question, but I do hope it makes some people do some soul searching at the least.

Sadly, most people would rather be "right" than "happy". This desire to be right leads people to defend their traditions and beliefs, sometimes to the death. Religions like Judaism, Christianity and Islam all require a belief that they are the only absolute truth. How can they all be absolutely true? They can't, which means one or another of them is not true. Some people, such as those who think everything can be explained by science given enough time, think all religion is false. This situation is contrary to a world-view that sees many paths to "truth" and wants to live-and-let-live. So which is better, being right or being happy?

People want to be right. They want to know 'the truth". The problem with this is none of these BELIEFS can be proven so the debate will go on and on. I think if people are being moral then let it be. Another problem is that the fight goes past the beliefs and crosses the line to making derogatory comments about each other.

People argue because that's the way satan Will have it. it nothing wrong with debate or expressing yourself but it is a way to do it without bashing or offending anyone. everyone has an opinion but every opinion does not have to be right. You have to stick with what you think is right or what is right, I feel this would be a great site to share with each other if there was not so many ignorant and crazy questions and answers that not even relevant to spirituality.

well religion is a very touch subject and people should respect each other's right to believe how they feel like believing unfortunately everybody feels that their religion is the right one and that everybody should join their religion and should share their religious views which leads to alot of debating in terms of religion

Some people argue over anything. Didn't you ever hear the old saying. Never talk politics and religion....
Go to the political section of Yahoo and it's just as bad there as here.

People with a real relationship with their creator have a peace and joy that cannot be adequately explained. they wish everyone could have this feeling of peace and joy. The people who don't have this, I don't know why they argue. I guess they want to prove that some people are really miserable like they are. If you don't believe they are miserable, just look at their comments, or their avatars, or their previous answers.

What good is a belief if you don't care enough to express it? The reality is that we should only talk about politics and religion, because nothing else matters.
