A ***** is on heat twice a year. The first time can be when they are 6 months old, even though large dogs tend to be sexually mature when they're a year old.The female dog heat cycle lasts 2-3 weeks. 10 days before it, a ***** is distraught and blood flows out of her vagina. After these 10 days, the ***** is ready for mating: she does not reject males, allows them to get closer and moves her tail aside when a "pretender" approaches. Males are always willing to mate, though, and when they smell a ***** on heat they will not be able to think about anything else.

Dogs go into heat every six months, and the actual bleeding will last for 2-3 weeks, but the personality changes can happen weeks before and will last for weeks afterward. Spaying a dog is fairly inexpensive, and you can even get reduced fee coupons at most local Humane Societies. It virtually eliminates the risk for certain types of cancers, and reduces the risk of other cancers. Spaying makes your dog a much more aggreable pet, too! Spayed dogs are less likey to roam, and they won't get moody and bleed twice a year. There are so many unwanted puppies in the world, please consider spaying your dog!
