He didn't "claim" any specifc religion. He was a Jew. That was that.

Jesus was Jewish, but I too can not find anywhere in the bible that he "claimed" his own religion. Jesus's focus was on God, making faith a personal relationship with God, the ability to access heaven by human souls, and a message of forgiveness as being an option as opposed to, let's say stoning someone.
There is a great book in publication that explores the twist of what Jesus himself said and what the church then did with it.
I think misunderstood your question. Jesus was Jewish, and a very gifted scholar. Probably would have been a Rabbi except I think he was forbidden to be one due to Mary's lack of marital status at the time of his conception. I don't think anyone bothered to make a statement about it because it is so clear that he is Jewish. Passovers, the last supper is clearly a Seder, all of his apostles are Jewish so there would be no reason for them to have to say," he was Jewish". It is just a given.

Throughout the Gospels Jesus is recorded as having kept Passover by going to Jerusalem each year. That was the religious mandate, that each year the men of Judaism were to go the Jerusalem, regardless of where in Israel they lived.
Jesus was a Jew and lived as a Jew.
Though not specifically stated, that is what one can deduce from the Gospels. And for what it is worth, all the Apostles were Jews also.

If you are honest and sincere, and you intend to follow Jesus, then you will be a Christian, a follower of Christ. That is the religion named after Jesus Christ.
If you read Acts 1 and 2, you will find the beginnings of the Church of Christ, and who was assigned and authorized to preach about it. If you go to Acts 11:26, you will see where followers of Christ were called Christians first. If you read throughout the book of Acts, you will see several examples of how to become a Christian, and what steps you have to take.
If you have any other questions, you can IM me.

Scripture reveals this Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18). By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19), Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22). Jesus also charged Peter to be the source of strength for the rest of the apostles (Luke 22:32) and the earthly shepherd of Jesus' flock (John 21:15-17). Jesus further gave Peter, and the apostles and elders in union with him, the power to bind and loose in heaven what they bound and loosed on earth. (Matt. 16:19; 18:18). This teaching authority did not die with Peter and the apostles, but was transferred to future bishops through the laying on of hands (e.g., Acts 1:20; 6:6; 13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6).
By virtue of this divinely-appointed authority, the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture (what books belong in the Bible) at the end of the fourth century. We therefore believe in the Scriptures on the authority of the Catholic Church. After all, nothing in Scripture tells us what Scriptures are inspired, what books belong in the Bible, or that Scripture is the final authority on questions concerning the Christian faith. Instead, the Bible says that the Church, not the Scriptures, is the pinnacle and foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15) and the final arbiter on questions of the Christian faith (Matt. 18:17). It is through the teaching authority and Apostolic Tradition (2 Thess. 2:15; 3:6; 1 Cor. 11:2) of this Church, who is guided by the Holy Spirit (John 14:16,26; 16:13), that we know of the divine inspiration of the Scriptures, and the manifold wisdom of God. (cf. Ephesians 3:10).

When Jesus asked Peter who he was, Peter said he was the Christ or Messiah.
Jesus replied that it was his being the Christ or his being the rock mass
Matt 16:16 In answer Simon Peter said: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
18 Also, I say to you, You are Peter, and on this rock-mass I will build my congregation,
Peter is not the rock-mass, Jesus is.
1 Pet 2:4 Coming to him as to a living stone, rejected, it is true, by men, but chosen, precious, with God, 5 YOU yourselves also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house for the purpose of a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it is contained in Scripture: “Look! I am laying in Zion a stone, chosen, a foundation cornerstone, precious; and no one exercising faith in it will by any means come to disappointment.”
Peter clarifies that the rock-mass is not himself but Christ.
We build Christ's congregation upon Christ.

Jesus was a worshipper of and witness of His Father Yahweh (Matthew 4:10, Psalms 83:18, Revelation 1:5) He was Jewish, but he is the founder of the Christian faith.

In the book of Matthew it says he was a descendant of King David so he was a Jew. The Bible also mentions that he went to the synagogue and celebrated Passover.

Jesus said: "Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.” (John 4:23 & 24)
He also said: "Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Jesus followed his Father's teachings, and taught his followers what was from God. He taught us to search for the truth, and not to follow doctines of man, and man-made traditions. He was born a Jew, but they are the ones that persecuted him and had him killed. He was the beginning of the Christian religions, so to speak, followers of Christ, the Way. Many so-called Christian religions have deviated from the truth, and are no longer acceptable to God.
The apostle John, inspired by God's holy spirit said: "Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world."
( 1 John 4: 1)
The Apostle Paul told Timothy: " For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. ( 2 Timothy 4: 3 & 4)
The Bible has the answers, and shows us the way. The prophet Isaiah, under inspiration of the holy spirit said: " And your own ears will hear a word behind you saying: “This is the way. Walk in it, YOU people,” in case YOU people should go to the right or in case YOU should go to the left."
Psalms 25:4 says: " Make me know your own ways, O Jehovah;
Teach me your own paths."
Isaiah 48: 17 & 18: "This is what Jehovah has said, your Repurchaser, the Holy One of Israel: “I, Jehovah, am your God, the One teaching you to benefit [yourself], the One causing you to tread in the way in which you should walk. 18 O if only you would actually pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. '
Jesus said: "But in reply he said: “It is written, ‘Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth.’”
Proverbs 16:25 says: "There exists a way that is upright before a man, but the ways of death are the end of it afterward."
So the point is that Jesus followed everything that his Father taught him...never the way of man, but the way of God.
John 17: 3: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
