Don't expect too much of her at first; it will take some time before she feels comfortable and warms up to you. Cats always get a bit traumatized by a move. When she arrives, show her where her litter box is by placing her in it. Sometimes it helps to use the same litter that was used in her old home. I'm assuming that she's already litter box trained; if she isn't keep her confined in an easily cleanable room with her food, water, and litter box. Pick up any accidents and place them in the litter box. It won't take long before she understands where to go :)

You also might want to invest in a scratching post. Cats scratch to sharpen their claws and to relieve stress. If they have a post, they are pretty good about using it, but if they don't have a scratching post, they will just as happily use your couch, draperies, etc (and that might not make you so happy!).

Hope this helps...

Here are some tips, based on experience.
Confine the kitten to 1 room or a portion of the house for a few days until she is used to it, then gradually let her into the rest of the house. Make sure that she knows where her litter tray is & leave that in the same place so that she can find it easily. Don't leave her feeding bowels beside the litter tray; have a different area for feeding. Let her explore & come to you at her own pace. It's most important that you don't let her outside for at least 5/6 weeks - she needs this much time to settle. She might run away & get lost if she is allowed out sooner. Try to spend time with her while she settles & get her into a routine. I hope you will have many happy years together.

It seems like you definitely have the necessary for the kitty. Now just get it some toys. Kittens that young are very hyper and enjoy getting into things. If you have a box sitting in the room, it will make it the funnest toy ever! they are just so hyper and active. If you go to Petsmart or Petco, they sell little simply $.99 toys, like little balls that are soft, rather than hard-they enjoy those! Anything with feather will also do the job!
Cats are unique animals with very deep characters and personalities. It will take a while before it "bonds" with you. If it's used to being handled then it will be easier, but if not, if can be feisty! If they do get feisty for any reason, do not allow it... even if it is playing. It can become part of their character, and it will not be good.
Goodluck with the new addition to your family, it will bring great joy!

I'm sure things will go really well! Just be ready to hold her all evening and make her feel really safe and secure, then little by little, she'll start to explore her new surroundings and quickly settle in.
Don't worry if she doesn't spend too much time with the toys and treats at first - it's got to be a bit scary for her.
We got a new kitten a few months ago - she used her bed as her toilet, thought the litter was for her amusement, and was totally uninterested in her toys for the first while... but now she's totally settled in and a scream.
Good luck with your new little bundle! Hope you've thought of a nice name for her!

I don't think the plasma tv is necessary, my cats don't pay attention to mine.

When we brought home my female (or rather, when my husband brought her to me as a surpise), she was the first cat in the house, and we just set her down and stayed calm and quiet while she explored the place. She went around at her own pace examining everything. We talked to her and called her name, which amazingly she responded to immediately. We did have to go to the store for a litter box and supplies (like I said, it was a surprise), but we showed her where it was and she never had any problems. She also had picked out a bed at the store and we put that in our room and she slept in that every night.

Whenever we move, which is frequently, we do the same thing. We'll put them in one room while the house is being packed and when we get to the new place, they'll get a room while things are being unloaded, then we open the door and let them explore at their own pace. It only takes a little time and they're right at home, rubbing on things, making noise, etc.

Congrats on the family member. She sounds adorable.

Congrats on the new family member! What is the cat's name? Just curious....

It sounds like you are very well prepared. I think you have covered most of the bases. I am assuming the cat is litter trained which would be wonderful, if not I am sure it will not take long for the cat to get the hang of it.

A scratching post would be a great idea as well.... and have a spray bottle on hand in case Kitty decides to jump up on things that are not OK.

Make sure you invest in good quality cat food as it will make a huge difference in your cats health in the long run.
Just give your Kitty lots of love and you are set!
Good luck.....

For the first day or so, you will have to go by her reactions to a new home. If she runs off and tries to hide, don't try to grab her but just talk gently to her so she learns not to be afraid. Put her litter tray and food in a convenient place that she can see easily. She will gradually start to wander about and explore her surroundings.

If she seems confident you can talk to her and let her get used to your smell, by offering your hand for her to sniff. You may be able to stroke her almost from the start. Try flicking some bits of scrunched up paper around, or one of her toys to see if you can encourage her to play - cats respond to movement. Use eye contact with her and blink when she looks at you, this sounds daft but it is a sign of friendship in cats. A hard stare is a threat!

Finally - only allow her to sleep on your own bed, if you intend to carry this on for the next 15 or so years! Once your kitten discovers the additional warmth and attention, she will want it for life.

Have fun with her, she will be adorable.

On the waggon a 42" pizza seems a bit much, ops sorry 42" plasma read it wrong. Provided the kitten is used to being handled and been treated well there should not be any problems, may take a few days to settle down, be patient, how would you like to be dumped on a stranger in a strange place. Good Luck

I just got a baby kitten (7 weeks old) about 3 weeks ago. She is soo cute, ok the truth is the first 2 days I loved her! She would sleep with my husband and I and was just so cute. She did however wake me up to play ever 2 hours in the middle of the night. Soon after that she got use to us being gone (just for a few hours if he was at work and I needed to run to the store). Now she finally sleeps in another room. Why you ask? Because she wants to play ALL NIGHT LONG and will not let me get any sleep. She is a crazy cat and I think she sees gosts or something because she will run from one side of the room to the other and back like she is chasing something. It’s rather amusing at times. But I just can’t let her back in the bedroom; she attacks anything that moves (including her own shadow). So trying to sleep is just out of the question if she is in the room biting at my toes all night (ha-ha as I Wright this she just jumped on my husband’s computer and went crazy at his moving screensaver. But now she turned the monitor on from moving the mouse so she doe snot find it funny anymore. Anyways, as crazy as she is now (she bites really hard and scratches so bad) I still love her and I'm still so happy I have her. Just give you kitten lots of love and make sure you have toys...they love them! We have a mouse that hangs from a door and OMG she goes crazy for that thing. But I would say her fav toy is my paper scraps that she found on the floor...she goes crazy for a strip of paper. So I got the rest out of the trash and let her have at them. She is just soooo cute! Good luck!

Oh and my kitten used the litter box RIGHT away so don't worry she will not give you any trouble with that.

Hello, I would just let the cat decide on her own where she wants to go, I got a year old cat and left her to her own devices and let her decide when she wanted to be petted. Also I would put her litter tray in the front room till she uses it, then put it where it's going to stay, she'll have the scent of it then, other than that you've got everything covered, I hope you have a long and lasting relationship! you will laugh a lot i guarantee it!
Good luck she sounds gorgeous!
