I'd like to get this done before I have to file my taxes.

When I divorced, I signed over my rights to ownership of the house we had owned together. I had to do this through a lawyer and it cost $118 if I remember correctly. My name is still on the title and mortgage bills. I was told that they would not come off until my ex-husband refinanced the house. If there are other ways, I don't know about them but this is probably the quickest way.

Why do you want your name of the title before you file your taxes. Taxes are done for the previous year.

Getting your name off the title is fairly simple and easy. Who do 'you want to have 'your share of the house or the entire house?

The easiest way it to find a notary public, both of you sign the title in front of this notary after which you take it to the county recorder's office to be recorded This is the most inexpensive, but legal way to do this.

The best way to do this transfer is to look in your local telephone book, find the number to a title company; call them and tell them you are transferring title to some else. Both of you will have to go down to the Title officer's office sign the deed in front of a notary there, after which the title company will ensure that the deed of trust is recorded at the county court.

I hope when you said you wanted to take your name off of the u e title of the house you did not mean the mortgage. If you did this takes a bit more planning and might not happen until someone refinance the property or the property is sold,

I hope this has been of some use to your, good luck

Getting your name off the title of a house is pretty easy. You can either sell or give the house to someone else. Contact a real estate attorney.

Removing your name from a mortgage or a loan is completely different.

you can sell it or give it to someone. then the change in title would have to be registered in your county records. there will be a fee for this. also, if the net value (market value less mortgage) exceeds about $20,000 (check for a new amount for 2007) you may have to pay gift tax.
