I think they did a good job.

First off, I don't like the chase. I think it's BS to take away the points off someone who has been consistent all year. Secondly I don't really care about the twelve drivers but this 5 point thing is ridiculous. That means the guy in first place will no longer be in first place if the second place (and so on) guy has won more races than he has. I love nascar but this is getting to be ridiculous!

I personaly like how wins win be rewarded more and then once int he chase be rewarded even more, but I dont not like how their is 12 in the chase as I think that 10 was a reasonably fair number, and thats what its always been and twelve is two much. Anyhow, I think that they should of left it at 10 and kept the 1 million dollar bonus as that was nice, and I think that getting rid of the 400 point cut off was a good idea, and it should of just been the top ten get in and thats that. I also like how their is now 10 more points for winning a race but their should be points for getting a pole, and winning is going to be crucial, and some drivers who only won a limited amount of races last year, and made the chase are going to have to work extra hard this year, if they want to be in it, but this new system of 12 prevents drivers like Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jr., and other good drivers from not making the chase like in 2005 where both Gordon and Jr. were not in it as thats probably why the number is now 12, but I am a Jeff Gordon fan so anything that helps my driver and other drivers im all for.

I like the extra points for the win idea but dislike putting 12 in the chase. I feel like nascar is bending by the pressure from the sponsors instead of looking out for the best interest of the sport. I was hoping to see a wildcard set up with the last ten races with drivers 11th thru maybe up to 15th for the one million dollar spot and an award show appearance in NewYork just to be able to highlight sort of a wildcard show. Plus that would have given alittle more tv time to some sponsors without messing up the chase format to bad.
Oh well I have said it before and will say it again "I MISS THE WINSTONCUP DAYS!!!"

I like it. I think it has made for a lot of good excitement in the past couple years, especially coming down to the last few races of the Chase. Like the year Kurt Busch won. That race at Homestead got me on my toes.

The only thing I don't like about it is when the Chase starts and they reset the points for the Chase drivers. I don't think that's fair, especially for those who were running so much better.

But, setting the bad aside, I think they've got a good vision for what they're trying to do, which is make it more exciting. I think they've done good so far, although I also think they can tweak it just a bit more.

One thing I do not like is that the point leader at the end of 26 races may not be the point leader when the points are reset. If driver A is the point leader and won 2 of the first 26 races but was very consistent, and driver B won 4 of the first 26 races but was, let's say 5th in points, then driver B will be ahead of driver A by 20 points after the points are reset. It's penalizing the top driver for having a good 2/3rd of a season. I still wish they would award minimal points for qualifying.

I think it should be good. I like that they are putting more emphasis on winning so drivers can't just point race anymore. I think you're going to see more competition to get those wins earlier on as well, b/c they know if they win pre-chase they'll sit better in the chase..
I don't think the 12 spots is really that big of deal, I basically think they did that b/c of the past two years (i/e Smoke being left out last year and Jr and Gordon the year before)
It's going to be awfully confusing from a fan's viewpoint though, which is a bit aggravating...but I think it'll be alright. Thank goodness for trackpass though!!

This is a great step which I have been advocating for years to anyone who would listen but I don't think that it has gone far enough to reward winning. In my mind the point system should be closer to formula 1 where the winner gets 10 pts 2nd gets 6 3rd gets 4 and so on so beyond the top few drivers everyone else gets nothing. This places a huge premium on winning, taking chances and driving as fast as you absolutely can while tuning the car for maximum advantage.

I have kinda mixed feelings about it cause, I think the changes are good cause its gonna give more people a chance to be in the chase and its more fair cause they're giving more points for a win. But I think its kinda sorry too, cause my fav. driver is Kasey Kahne and I think that if the rules would've been this way last year that Kasey would've had a better chance at winning the Nextel Cup, so I think he got ripped off.

i like that they are giving more importance on winning, but what about the guys who stay in the top 3 in points all season long, i think that they should have left it at the 5 point margin between drivers and then give the bonus points for winning, they kind of got away from the points that they made last year about being consistent in the chase

All it will change is the number of drivers eligible for the cup. If they truly want good racing every weekend they should go back to the old system, forget the Chase entirely.
