we have sky but about once a fortnight it just goes off, saying on the screen, "searching for listings, please wait", we have to switch the box off , then on again to reboot the system. We have had three sky engineers come out and they have changed the box twice, checked the satellite dish outside but yet we still get these problems. Can anyone enlighten me .

Many of the so-called Sky engineers are not really qualified engineers at all, they're just box-shifters who know enough to connect up he bits of your domestic system but don't really understand how it works.

On your remote control press the blue Services button.
Select number 4 "System setup", you'll get another menu;
Select number 6 "Signal Test", look at the two grey bars at the top of the list. They indicate Signal Strength and Signal Quality. If either of them are at or below half way along the bar then you have a weak signal that may not be strong enough for the Box to work with. You should call Sky and get them to send a EXPERT to test your LNB (the bit in the middle of the dish) and Dish alignment.

I have had nothing but problems with satellite TV. Where I live they provide it free, but it's still not worth it. Loads of trouble, it is like "searching for satellite" whenever it rains, or snows....
Load of rubbish if you ask me, regular cable works much better. Our internet is also thru satellite, and sometimes it takes ages to download things... other times it's pretty fast. I give up!

Have they tested your LNB, the bit at the end of the arm on the dish.
