I'm really surprised at alot of the answers. You all should realize if you go back to the old days the sport either get banned or gets zero media coverage. Don't you all remember that it was almost made illegal and is just now legal in California? If you went back to no rules you kill the sport.
I would like to see the sport improve the gloves. They could design a glove that makes it less likely to cut an opponent. Cuts ruin the flow of the fight as the ref stops to check them out. They are messy. A better design glove could make the problem better.

I'd make it a bracketed tournament like the early UFC's. A fighter has to win 3 or 4 fights in a night to be champion. Most of these guys get gassed after two rounds.

They should either get rid of the fence or allow them to grab it and use it. Also they should allows gi's and eliminate rounds and just go back to a all out fight with a with less rules. Say like 15 minutes straight with one 3 minute bonus round with kicking downed opponents, stomping, no hair pulling or groin shots, no eye goughing though and you be able to punch people in back of the head also. And they should put barbed wire and some spikes along the fence and you should get electricuted if you touch the fence and the should replace the mat with concrete so the wrestlers can pick up the strikers and dip them on their heads and gloves should be optional.

wow... great answers all..
personally, i loved the marathon bouts that they used to do.. almost k-1 and bushido like! gracie went thru wars in those day.. doubt hughes could fight 3 guys a night without time limits.. he'd gas...
and i do prefer the extended time limits of pride.. the 3-5 min rounds are so short.. just when the feeling out is over and the action really starts the bell rings.. happens so often, i get tired and change the channel...
and of course..
i'd totally LOVE to see women's bouts in the ufc.. i think women are overlooked in mma and there are some really great female fighters out there that deserve their chance..
did you know that women fighters get paid 70% less than their male counterparts.. hardly seems worth the fight, but they do it for the love of the war.. so i think they really deserve their day in the sun...
heck, the ring girls get paid more than the female fighters, now if you ask me that's just not right.. the female fighters could beat the $#!+ out of the ring girls with one arm tied behind their back.. c'mon guys, though we're making progress, women fighters still need your support!

Make it 1 ten-minute round.
I doubt that there would be too many draws, but if so, an additional 5 min round.
I think the fights should be scheduled over a 1-2 week period, like tennis, so that a fighter would have to beat 3 or 4 guys in a tournament, over a week or so, with days off to rest, recuperate, and recover from minor injuries, before he could be declared the winner.

I would allow knees and stomps to the head of a downed opponent and make elbows to the face of a downed opponent illegal so there would be as many fights stopped due to cuts, Id also bring back submissions that are now illegal such as can-openers and neck cranks.
Basically less rules and the rules that are imlpemented are for the purpose of having a fight ended prematurly or for the long term health of the fighter (hitting to the back of the head and spine is really dangerous)

Bring womans devisions in as well as a BAntom or super light weight class.
Why would they get rid of the cage for the ropes. All the ropes do is get in the way and if the fighters leg goes out they have to stop and move back to the middle constantly. As for bare knuckles I suggest you all try punching a heavy bag over and over with no wraps and see how your hands and wrists do. Oh and as for all the face stompers out there. Ya that will bring out the talent....
Where is the skill in kicking/kneeing a guy in the head while he is face down on the matt.
Ground and pound and head strikes to downed opponants are for fighters with no ground skills. Let me guess you guys think they should bring back hair pulling and kicks to the groin too...
I guess it's ok for you all if its on TV but I'm sure none of you would join a tournament like that.

One set of rules for all referees. This would put an end to some of these early stopagges. What one ref thinks is unintellegently defending themselves another ref would have let go and the fight would not have been stopped. Or to simplify one ref for all title fights. That way everyone gets the same fair chance.

Knees and stomps on the ground. Going back to the original rules with no weight class, rules, etc will never happen. They got banned in too many states before. If state athletic commissions won't allow knees on the ground they'll never let the old rules come back.

I would get rid of the gloves. Return to the old days of UFC, bare knuckles.
