The annually updated trivalent flu vaccine for the 2006–2007 season consists of hemagglutinin (HA) surface glycoprotein components from influenza H3N2, H1N1, and B influenza viruses.

Each year the influenza virus changes and different strains become dominant. Due to the high mutability of the virus a particular vaccine formulation usually only works for about a year. The World Health Organization co-ordinates the contents of the vaccine each year to contain the most likely strains of the virus to attack the next year. The flu vaccine is usually recommended for anyone in a high-risk group who would be likely to suffer complications from influenza.

NO the flu shot will not wear off in a month...however your kids may be experiencing symptoms that are similar to the flu... there is a fairly virulent strain of bacteria going around now that seems to be attacking many people...My friend who works at a neighborhood hospital has said that he has seen a 60% increase of upper respiratory infections over the past few weeks...

The vaccine makes your children immune to the specific flu virus(s) that is(are) present in the vaccine. Not all flu viruses are in the vaccine, so they can still catch the flu...just not the flu (normally) that is present in the vaccine.

If your child does get the flu (either the one(s) that they have been vaccinated for or not), your child will not have as bad of a reaction or have harder symptoms than they would have had without it.

This is what I have been told by my Doctor.

No, you kids are covered against specific strains of the flu virus, which will last for a while. They still could get sick if they catch a flu virus that is a different strain from the one that they were vaccinated by. Heres a link from the CDC regarding flu vaccine.

According to my Doctor, the answer is yes. That is why they encourage to get the shot as late as we feel comfortable. February is one of the biggest months for the flu, but "some" protection is still present.

Please don't get them shots for everything. That's not the right way to go about things and too many PC vaccines could wind up harming them.
