I think either of those colors would be pretty. Don't feel like you have to choose your color by the season or month it is in. I had a spring wedding in April last year and I had it in my head to have pastels and light colors however I always was drawn to the red bridesmaid dresses. Well I debated because I always thought I'd have red if I got married around Christmas or Valentine's Day. I finally thought well why not have red and I went with red and pink for my colors. The flowers were gorgeous and I received so many compliments on the dresses and colors so you have what ever you want.
There are some gorgeous champagne colored bridesmaid dresses.
Good Luck! :)

I'd ask the bridesmaids. The best thing to do is pick one color and have them pick their style (everyone's shape will be different), no matter what color you all decide on. I wore champagne as a bridesmaid and it looked real tacky on us. Especially the extremelywhite bridesmaids. It looks best on darker skin tones. Platinum might be a little too "out there". Why don't you try davidsbridal.com and go through all the colors.

Platinum could work if you are doing a winter wedding theme. It's almost like ice. In winter weddings people generally deocrate with candles and mirrors, so it will go well! Another color, even though it is dark, but could be lightened up easily with accents is black. People think of it as dark, but it really isn't when you pair it with light things such as flowers, etc.
Good luck and congrats!

Champagne & Platinum always look good. You don't have to go dark if you don't want to. Other good colors would be royal blue, red, coffee, sage green, etc..
And ask your bridesmaids what they suggest, they might have a good idea.

Champagne is a beautiful color. January is a tough month because there isn't really a color for that month. Stick with winter colors, champagne is more of a fall color but I think it will definitely work!

Pale greens (sage, seafoam) would be pretty, champagne is a gorgeous, lavenders are a great color, even a pale yellow would be nice. You'll be able to find vests and ties/bowties for the groomsmen to wear that match these colors very easy. These colors would look good anytime!

Fashion changes so quickly I would wait another six months before making a decision on the bridesmaids and see what the upcoming winter fashion colors will be for 2008.

Well, I went with my favorite colors (purple and forest green - I had a Sept wedding). It's your wedding and you choose the colors that you want regardless of the time of year. Good luck!
