Ok, here's my dilema. I am 20 years old. I live on my own, I pay my way for everything, very independent. I am also pretty conservative in my morals and beliefs. I was basptized Catholic, but am non practicing. Unfortunately, I do not have health insurance. I have irregular periods, and I needed to be on hormonal birth control to regualte my periods. I am VERY VERY against abortion, yet to get my birth control, I had to go to Planned Parenthood, because I don't have health insurance. I'm just wondering if I'm a hypocrite, a sinner, or a bad person for going there. I'm not using the pills as a birth control, it's to regulate my cycle. Also, I've tried gettting on Medi-Cal, but I make too much....even with all my expensies each month....Any insight would greatly be appreciated....

I am also very religious and independent.
I do not find anything at all reprehensible about using birth control to regulate your menstral cycle. As long as you make no permanent changes that prohibit child birth, I see no problem trying to be wise about childbirth.
You will find that your cycle will balance itself out when you start trying to have a child. Trust me on this. It is rather common actually, but the particulars are not really appropriate in this forum.

There are plenty of places besides Planned Parenthood uninsured people can go to get birth control. Did you try the county Health Dept??
Yes, you are kind of hypocritical. You don't need to correct irregular periods. You wanted to. And now you have gone against one of the laws of the Holy Catholic Church. Also, you look down your nose at those people who got abortions with the help of Planned Parenthood.
I wonder how much research you've actually done on abortion and if you simply have believed the narrow view of the church that you obviously don't adhere to. You can't have it both ways. You are either a Catholic and you don't use birth control or you are not a Catholic and you should either become an Atheist or find a new religion. In the mean time. take the time to study and research your points that you claim to be against. I bet you haven't researched it at all.
Anyway, that's my two cents. I am pro choice because I researched the issue. I used to go to Catholic school and I have studied Catholicism extensively. I used to be pro-life until I researched the issue instead of just listening to other people's opinion.

I don't see what is wrong with going to Planned Parenthood. They help many young women like yourself!
You can always try the Health Department though. They will treat you free, but it uses taxpayers dollars. I think Planned Parenthood works off of private donations (not positive though).

Maybe it will help you understand that people get into situations without intentionally wanting to do the wrong thing. You need the pills to regulate your periods but do not have money for health insurance. No, you're not sinning, you're doing what you can- and that is what many folks do. Just what they can.

I am a Christian and I have gone to planned parenthood for healthcare. I see no problem with it. Planned parenthood is not just the abortion mill that people try to say it is. They also do a lot to help with pregnancy prevention and healthcare.

I was under the impression that the catholic church was ok with birth control pills if used for health reasons.
In any case, no you're not a hypocrite. You're not using birth control. You're taking medication.

Yes, you are a hypocrite.
You should not be taking assistance from people that you BELEIVE are commiting heinous crimes of abortion. You should not be taking birth control, regardless of it normalizing your irregular periods - you should rather simply deal with the affliction your God gave to you, after all, it might be a test - and youre failing it at this very moment... (please note that I do not consider you a hypocrite or a sinner - but your religious ideaologies make you one)
Amazing how anyone would CHOOSE to become a victim of guilt and oppression at the hands of faith....

If it bothers you that you have to go to planned parenthood for medication how about asking your doctor if there is another place you can go to. May be he could give you free samples.

Using the pill for medical reasons and not moral/religious reasons are two different things. You are not going against church teachings if you take insulin for diabetes are you? This is no different.

um the pills arent a form of abortion for one. for two, your taking pills to create normality from abnormality, which is exactly what people who have any kind of psychological problem do as well, or any kind of sickness. nothing wrong with helping your body function properly.
