Have you ever tried a drug or specific drink that you saw someone do on television or in films?

i.e. Have any of you females answering this question ever tried a "Cosmo" after seeing the women of "Sex in the City" drinking them?

Has anyone seen John Travolta doing Heroin in "Pulp Fiction" and thought it looked cool (when he is driving in the convertible after and seems all relaxed and mellow)? Have any of you thought that you might be more prone to try heroin because of seeing this scene in Pulp Fiction?

Do any girls/women think that it is funny when the women of "Absolutely Fabulous" drink and pop pills? Does the humor you see in this make you think that drinking and taking pills might not be as dangerous as people have always told you it is? How about "Karen" on "Will and Grace"?

This is a poll that I am taking for a project I am working on. I appreciate any answers you can give. I will NOT use your names, screen names or ANY personal identifying information in this venture.

i used to envy the lives of the stars on tv and how glamorous they made drugs look. as i grew up i realized that its just entertainment and things arent at all what they seem to be in the movies. i do look up to the women of sex and the city as it is my favorite tv show but i would never drink like them or give up my body as easily as they do.

You know what? I never thought of your question this way but yes, I did try a Cosmo after watching an episode of Sex and the City (hated it and never had another). Then again I'm not much of a drinker. I've never been tempted to try heroin or cocaine or other hard drugs, probably now more so because of risk to my job. But will admit I do find the character Karen on Will & Grace to be fabulous and she does glamorize drinking and pill popping and makes it tempting to just float through life that way. Being a nurse I know the downside, but can't help but wish I could have her life. Great question!!

I do not think drugs is cool. I do not think so seeing it in the movies or tv either. I have tried drugs but that was way before I ever saw it in tv or movies. I also come from and alcoholic family so no amount of seeing drinking in movies is going to make me think it looks cool because I know better. Unfortunately they do seem to glam it up a bit in the movies and tv and make it look like it is impossible to have fun without these things and that is soooo uncool. at least in pulp fiction the girl almost dies of an overdose to show the not so cool side of drugs. This is why parents should screen and watch out for what their children see on tv and movies not just let them see whatever they want

I don't think I have ever tried any hard drug or alcoholic drink after seeing it on TV, nor did I ever think it was "cool."

I have considered it humorous when Karen on "Will and Grace" is "high." It doesn't make me want to pop pills or anything, though. I know the dangers and that makes it easier not to be so influenced by pop-culture...

I'd be more inclined to consider trying something if someone I knew in real life was doing it, but that doesn't necessarily mean I would.

I do, however, enjoy seeing someone smoke a joint on TV, or eat special brownies, but that's because I have been known to smoke a joint myself, and know marijuana to be a much less harmful substance.

Peer presure has a lot more influence on if'n someone is going to get into drug use more than what is seen in the media. I might try a drink that I see for the first time on TV, i.e. your cosmo question. But I wouldn't start drinking them just because I saw them on a TV show. The food network would have more influence over my drink choices then Sex in the City would.

not so much as making someone want to try it but putting the mystery of what the drug actually can do to u into someones thoughts, causing them to want to find out.

if you look in each example that you gave, later the consequences of each characters experience with their situations takes control of what could happen metaphorically.

the girls in sex and the city are lonely and skanky and Travolta is blasted after taking a **** by Bruce Willis. it all has to do with how much curiosity must develop before the cat Finlay moves to inspect....

Personally, I don't think I will ever imitate anything negative that I see on TV or the movies! Maybe because I'm mature enough to see what's right from wrong. However, I think people who are too young and immature may not be as discerning and may think it cool to imitate such things!

Actually, no. I have never tried drugs or alcohol or even smoking.

I have had access to all of those things but it's a personal decision, it's not something my parents imposed on me.

I may be young but I certainly am not impressionable.

I have tried things such as drinks, or foods and such, but if I think it's dangerous like the heroin or popping pills I won't do it. I have my own brain and I use it everynow and then. lol Good question.
