The Amalekites attacked the Jews on their way out of Egypt, that's why God ordered them to kill them later, bc He promised He would blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sun. No, I don't see how this isolated event is relevant at all to today.

The war is not with Amalek. It may be with some of his descendants.
