in view of the new legislation regarding The Equality Act which bans discrimination in the provision of goods, facilities and services on the basis of sexual orientation in a similar way to the rules on sex and race discrimination.

how will it work?
isn't it religious discrimination to legally force someone to act against there religious beliefs in the same way as it would be classed as racial disctrimination or sexual discrimination if someone was asked to do something against there life choice.

to add a bit of detail, the equality act would mean forcing a church hall to be used for a civil partnership wedding even if it is against the churches beliefs.

I understand the need for equality in all things but wouldn't that infringe on a persons religious rights?

The news mentioned that the catholic church is at present conscerned about the equalitiy act because it may mean the closure of the catholic adoption agencys because there religious belief stops adoptions by same sex couples.

I don't have an opinion about who is right or wrong I just wanted to know your thoughts on how equality could work in such situations.

You can do what you like in private but not in the public domain.

the second part of your question doesn't make sense with the first. I don't think people should be banned from a good or service because of their orientation.

When you say "legally force someone to act agaisnt their religious beliefs," what do you mean, like someone selling a toothbrush to a gay couple? I'm not sure what you mean by that statement.

I don't remember the verse in the bible that says "Thou shalt be a dick to gay people". Sure, they don't believe that homosexuality is right, but that is no excuse to not give equal service to them.
