I'm a 26 year old mother to a 5 year old step daughter and I have a 10 month old son of my own. I consider myself to be quite liberal and a very free thinker. However, I would NEVER bring my kids into a tattoo parlor. Ever. I made choices to get a tattoo and a few piercings (the piercings are removed now that I'm a mom) but those were choices I made as an adult. I would never want to expose my children to anything like that, no matter how old or young they are. It just doesn't seem or feel right.
It might have been a clean and smoke free environment, but that's not the point. Exposing a child to adult activities like that is irresponsible....and once again, this is coming from a very liberal person. I would be very upset also.
Good luck with your situation...from one step mommy to another.

I'm not saying "what the hell". As long as it's a meaningful design and I don't think she'd regret it, I'd let my daughter get a tattoo at 16. 1) Yes. If the quote is longer, there is more tattoo to do. 2) No. Don't worry though, it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as everyone thinks. 3) Out of my tattoos...either the neck or stomach. The front of my neck hurt, back didn't. My stomach hurt like a *****. 4) Arms. Both arms didn't hurt when they got tattooed. 5. It stings after for a day or so. 6) Just don't think about it. 7) For just a quote, about half an inch tall and a few words long...under $100 probably. If it makes you feel better I'm a wimp too. Whenever I get shots, IVs or blood drawn I cry and I've kicked plenty of nurses. I don't think tattoos hurt, I'd rather get that then a needle shoved in my vein.

I have two tattoos and the tattoo parlor that I went to did not
even allow children inside - period. On that day, two years ago my youngest son was a few months old so it was inconvenient for me not to be able to bring him with me since he would have slept the whole time. But now that I think back about it and read your question a tattoo parlor is no place for a young child.
One of my tattoos is three blue footprints and I plan to get each of my son's name by the footprint that represents them. Even if I had a choice I would not bring my two year old, five year old,
or my eight year old with me.

As long as it's clean, smoke free, and the three yr old isn't the CLIENT, then really what is the big deal?
I took a couple of my children in to pick out a belly button ring for my sister's birthday. I wasn't uncomfortable in the least bit. Of course I live in a small country town and this place was not in a huge city. Maybe the enviornment is why I was OK with it?

Depends on the parlour and obviously the 3 year old is not getting a tattoo. No respectable tattoo artist would tattoo a toddler.
The tattoo shops I've been to are cleaner than my doctor's office as they have to maintain cleanliness and sanitation. However, I've also been to ones where I was afraid to take my shoes off.
A tattoo parlour is not a bad place in general, depends on the place. If you are really worried about where they are taking her, go there and judge for yourself the type of place it is.
There is good in bad in all categories.

As long as they weren't tattooing the child, I don't think it's a problem. As long as she didn't get scared or made to feel sick then where's the harm? She isn't about to pull on her booties and toddle off to get a dragon and 4 chinese symbols scribbled onto her wrists, I promise! It's probably good for her education, learning about different choices people make about their body etc. If she didn't come home scared and sickened - it's unlikely she would - then she's fine.

i have 2 daughters and both have been around me when i have gotten tattoos i don't find a problem in doing this as long as the environment was clean smoke free and they where supervised by another adult and that they did not show any fear from being there so as long as no one was screaming or naked then i don't think its a big deal at all!

there is room here for alot of flip answers, however, it would be nice, and should be mandatory, for parents to allow themselves and their offspring, to make that decision for themselves when they reach legal age, twenty one, or eighteen whatever the legal age is, the parents should be at least reprimanded, if not fined or at least encouraged to attend a mental health clinic and have counciling

Are you serious? I would challenge her in court. She is not fit to be a parent.
She cant tattoo someone under age that cant make those life long decisions themselves.
That is so wrong.
