Is 1000cal 1kcal? I would like to know - after just 600 steps it said I had burned 300kcal and I don't think this can be right!! Thanks for any help.

No, they mean the same thing in common English. The word "calorie" is used in dieting, exercise, etc., to refer to a unit of heat/energy that a scientist would call a "kilocalorie".
What you and 95% of the US call a "calorie" is a kilocalorie. In common language, most people use the word "calorie" instead of "kilocalorie".
But when a scientist talks about a calorie, he's talking about something different, which is only 1/1000 of what most of us call a calorie. I hope that makes sense. But the short answer is: they are the same thing. You burned 300 calories.

They mean the same thing in this context. Calorie is not an SI unit like metres or kilograms and fall into two categories: small calories and large calories. The large calorie or kilogram-calorie is what is referred to in nutrition, so the two terms (cal and kcal) are pretty much interchangable.

yes 1000 cal = 1kcal. A kcal is a kilocalorie... The machine you're owrking could have a calibration error

kcals are the ones you need to watch, but are often abbreviated, somewhat confusingly, to just 'calories'. typically when you find a food that says, for example, '90 calories' it actually means 90kcals, and this will be listed on the nutritional information label alongside possibly another value in KJ. (kilojoules.) for an adult female you need about 2000kcal a day. i would question the accuracy of your device though. i work out in the gym for an hour to burn that much.

kcal means kilocal so yess a 1000 cals = 1 kcal

calorie is for mesure temperature and kilocalorie if for measure body temperature

im sure that that mean callories, not sure though but thats what ive always read it as.
