***Understand now that in no way am I saying that comiting a sin makes a person evil. ***

Evil is the absolute lack of good. Evil desires only to sin (See Galatians 5 19-21) and has no use or desire for the fruit of the spirit(see Galations 5, 22-23).

~Galatians 5, 19-23; New International Version
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. ~

If God can do anything, but can't do evil, then evil is nothing. It is the one thing that he can not do, who can do anything.

So, theologically, evil is nothing.

Realistically, evil is a thought or means of describing someone's personality. A killer is evil, but in reality what he is doing is killing someone, not performing evil. even if you think his mind is evil, true it may be, but a more realistic way of describing it is that he has wicked desires or lustful impulses. Simply calling it "evil" is not very descriptive. After all, some people say a child acts evil, but in reality it's just that they don't appreciate the value of right and wrong.

So, theologically and realistically, evil is nothing.

This also makes sense if you think about that old phrase:
when a good man does nothing, that is evil itself.

Or my take on it:
when an evil man does nothing, that is goodness itself.

God is the standard of goodness. Anything that conflicts with His goodness is evil. As humans, we tend to establish our own standard based on our limited knowledge and experience. We call some things good though they are evil because they just don't seem that bad to us, and we also tend to call some things evil which are good because we cannot understand how they are good. Jesus says we are to love everyone, even our enemies. He loved His enemies enough to die for them. The standard for goodness is high, and the capacity for evil is effortlessly realized. So, evil is opposition, whether intentional or not, to God's standard of goodness. We cannot choose absolutely to be good or evil, but we can strive to do more good than evil.

The Bible says that "sin" is transgression of the law (the 10 Commandments), so since sin is evil, evil would be anything that goes contrary to the laws and mandates of the Lord.

C. S. Lewis once pointed out that all evil is perversion of good. For example, love of one's country is good in moderation, but excess love of country becomes chauvinism and jingoism.

Love of family is good, but if my love of family leads me to murder my neighbors to gain their property it's no long a good.

Any evil one can think of is a good exercised immoderately or in a wrong way.

There is also the idea that if one enshrines one virtue over all others, it becomes an evil. Kindness to animals is a good, but if I decide to house 40 poisonous snakes in the house that also contains my infant children, I'm not doing good.

evil is the assertion there is no god and the actions which follow as a consequence. evil is a lie which has been allowed space in time that it may be manifest as a lie once for all time. evil is one of the two options given a free will being. the other option is recognition of God as God.

Evil is an opinion....or a label that we hang on some behaviors that are either inherently unacceptable to society (theft, murder, etc...) or that a particular religion chooses to recognize as unacceptable behavior (homosexuality, gambling, reading certain books, etc...).
