I am wanting to do the same thing as you.
From what I have found out, if you are a British Citizen it should be okay as long as you have a return ticket from Canada back to UK. They mainly want to see your intention to leave USA.
You won't need to go to London to get a visa ,as UK is a visa waiver country for USA.
You will probably need to fill in a form at the border (think its called a visa waiver) and you be asked questions about your plans so keep travel docs and passport on you.
Where are you planning to go? I was planning to go to Buffalo, New York State, from Toronto.
Good luck with your trip!

You do not state ur nationality. Even though you will need a visa whilst crossing the border to U.S.A therefore you need to obtain a visa from the American embassy in london prior to travel.

certain. offered you've passport, NEXUS bypass, or an better motive force's license you may visit the USA (by technique of floor). there is not any decrease on how short of a visit you may stay. notwithstanding, in case you stay more advantageous than 24 hours, you've a $2 hundred exemption on customs. meaning the first $2 hundred (with some exceptions for alcohol or tobacco) aren't any further challenge to taxes once you re-enter Canada. This stated... at maximum busy border crossings, Canadian customs brokers only ask how a lot to procure and in many cases do not ask how lengthy you've been contained in the US even if that is decrease than $2 hundred or so.

Being able to visit the US can be tricky, depending on which part of the world you are from and also your citizenship.
For example, we had a visiting scholor from Korea who had been in the US before and was planning on attending a friend's wedding but was not allowed across because she did not have a Visa. You should be able to find out from the US consulate in your area if you need to have any specific Visa or approval along with your passport, since it is a long way from home I imagine and I would hate for you to have a big disappointment.
Enjoy your trip.

Just to clarify, you're a British citizen?
So the question is whether or not a British citizen needs a tourist visa, whether entering from Canada or directly from Great Britain ?
So....:
Great Britain particpates in the Visa Waiver Program, detailed below. If your passport complies with the requirements, it appears you do not need a visa.
Visa Waiver Program (VWP)
Important Notice:
International travelers, who are nationals of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries, seeking to travel to the United States without a visa, should review this important information on passport requirements for travelers under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). All VWP travelers, regardless of age or type of passport used, must present individual machine -readable passports. Previous one-time exemptions for first-time VWP travelers without MRPs ended June 26, 2005. In addition, depending on when VWP travelers’ passports were issued, other passport requirements apply:
* Machine-readable passports issued or renewed/extended on or after 10/26/06 – requires integrated chip with information from the data page (e-Passport).
* Machine-readable passports issued or renewed/extended between 10/26/05 and 10/25/06 – requires digital photograph printed on the data page or integrated chip with information from the data page.
* Machine-readable passports issued or renewed/extended before 10/26/05 – no further requirements.

Hi there. You're going to be driving to the USA from Canada, correct? You do not need a visa in order to travel from Canada to the USA. You're a British citizen, so you definitely do not need a visa. However, I would bring with you your passport. You will be asked for it.

You can get a visa waiver at the border but i would ask for one when you check in with your airline, just fill it in and take it with you to the border with you passport when you want to cross, you will be taxed on anything that you buy in the states when you cross back into canada i think that its anything that you spend over $200, or was when i did it last but if you ask the locals when youre there they will let you know. hope that helps.
