yes they are ranchers kill them always;saying there scard there going to kill their animals...with the weird hard winter;there's not much food out their so the have to do different things to get fed;they have babies that must get fed too...we take over all the wild land and animals have no where to go...we should learn to live in harmony,,,,,,

I don't think so. They are still hunted in several states.
They are an amazingly adaptive cat, they range in habitat across the entire United States and can live in snowy mountains or hot deserts or dense forests..
I live in Southern California and sightings are pretty common in the surrounding wilderness areas. Though they are usually referred to as Mountain Lions or Cougars out here.

If there are humans around, or livestock. They will be killed.
Humans are moving into outlying areas and any cat that comes near is shot.
