I would say go with a complete Irish theme and make the day fun. Have you been to Bennigan's Blarney Blast ever? It's a fun theme, but can be made classy too!
This explains a traditional irish wedding:

Food and Drink and music
The traditional Irish wedding cake is very unlike the modern American cake; it's more like a fruit cake, up to and including the several months of ripening. However, a gifted baker can bring the two together.
Like maybe have a fruit filling on a traditional wedding cake. Have it decorated with gum paste four leaf clovers.
You can serve green beer, and green apple martinis. Have a green wedding punch for the kids!
You can play traditional Irish music while guests mingle during a cocktail hour, or even have a few people there playing the bag pipes. There are traditional Irish dances that you and your wedding party could learn and perform for your wedding party dance!
An idea for decoration and maybe even entertainment at the reception, maybe before eating dinner:
If you have the room, make a maypole. An idea might be to use the pole and weighted stand of an outside table umbrella (without the umbrella part). Attach lengths of green and white ribbon from the top of the pole. Have a maypole dance with children from each of your families.
For table centerpieces, you could paint clay flower pots black and have them filled with gold coins. And on alternating tables, have white carnations with green colored tips in an arangement.
Around the area, you can have green plants/trees and string white lights on them.
Bridesmaids gowns can be a simple green color, not necessarily the bright green you associate with St. Pat's Day, but a classy low key green. Your groomsmen could have an Irish plaid vest or cumberbund. And have a green clover for boutineers and incorporate green clovers into the bouquets!
Either way, you could do it as themey cheesy as you want, or just include subtle amounts of the Irish theme.
Good luck and congrats!

Congrats! I got married on St Patricks day too - but it was purely a coincidence, and we didn't use it as a theme.
Green would be an obvious choice for your colors, and there are so many pretty shades to choose from. You could include green in your jewelry, bridesmaid's dresses, flowers, table linens, cake decorations, etc... If you don't want to do all green, pick a color that would complement it and use green as an accent (I personally love chocolate brown with sage green)
Harpists are hired often at weddings anyway; but that would really fit with your theme.
Use clovers & lucky horseshoe in your wedding bouquet.
You could use a celtic knot pattern on some items.
Have the band or DJ play some Irish folk music, if you like it.
Make sure the bartender has plenty of Guiness on hand :)
Have fun!

Do you like the color green? I helped a friend plan a St. Patty's Day wedding once. The colors were pastel green almost a sage color and different colors of purple and violet. It looked GREAT! Are you or your soon to be spouse Irish? You could look up some Irish Blessings on the internet and have one read at your ceremony. Do a shamrock theme or four leaf clover theme at the reception. There's so much you can do with this holiday and a wedding.
Good luck!

I think shamrocks are so pretty. You could get some and sprinkle them on the table settings at the reception. Little bags of chocolates that look like gold coins is a cute little favor for your guests. Of course a good drink would be green beer or...in my husbands case Guinness!
For the wedding, you could have little touches of different shades green here and there....not loud, but subtle hints of St Patricks.

I couldn't find a cake, but I think shamrocks on a white tiered cake would be beautiful.
