My son will be 2 in a few weeks and he switched to a big boy bed last October (at 20 months old). I don't think it's too late now but I wouldn't wait until 3, he will be trying to climb out and fall.

Be thankful that he will stay in a crib @ 2. All 4 of my children could climb out of their crib before their 2nd birthday, so they were in toddler beds at that age. I believe he is ready age wise to be in a bed, but I suggest a toddler bed since they are closer to the floor. Get side rails too. I think the size of the toddler bed is more comforting to a 2 year old because they don't feel like they are sleeping in this huge bed.

I had to move my daughter to a bed when she was 18 months. She was jumping out of her crib. So I think if hes still sleeping in it fine, without trying to jump out hes fine. But by 3.. he should probably be moved to the "big boy" bed the ones with the rails so he dosent fall off. The change might be hard at first with him getting up and out of bed.... but just give it some time. I personally like the cribs I wish my kids would have stayed in them longer!! Good luck and dont worry!!

I moved my first and will probably the second at the age of 2. I would put him in a toddler bed with the rails on the side. I think maybe 4-5 would be ok to move to a regular bed.

Normally between 2 + 3 depending on when they are ready and if they are getting too big for a crib. If they can climb out of their crib it's safer in a toddler bed with rails.

My daughter was around two years old when she started to sleep in her own bed. She absolutely hated her crib, so it was pretty easy to get her to switch. I bought the bed rails for her so she wouldn't fall, but she didn't need them for very long. I think between 2 and 3 are good ages to start your child in a bed. All kids are different, I wouldn't worry to much about what your mother in law says. Contrary to popular belief they are NOT always right!. You do what you think is best. Good Luck!

When the child starts climbing out of the crib. You can get him into a toddler bed now...a car bed, know what I mean? They are smaller (they utilize the crib mattress) than the average twin bed and they are low to the floor.

I moved my son to a toddler bed (actually his crib turned day bed) at about 2.5 when he started climbing out of the crib.

My daughter turned 2 in October and hasn’t learned how to climb out yet and she will stay in the crib until she starts climbing out or until she’s potty trained. Whichever happens first.

If they are potty trained then they need to be able to go to the washroom in the middle of the night.

Tell your Mother in Law that she can’t make your son grow up faster than he’s going to.

My daughter came out of hers when she was 2 and went to a toddler bed, my son came out at 11 months and went to a toddler bed. The easiest way to tell if your child is ready is by them. If they can climb out of there crib it is time to move them to a bed. If they can climb out, they can get hurt, my son climed out but his foot got stuck, fell backwards and hit his head pretty hard. I didnt know this was happening, he was supposed to be taking a nap and I went to take a shower. I heard him screaming, that was the day I got him a bed, never any problems again.

well my son who is now 17mnths, has been in his big boy bed since he was 11mnths old. We moved into a larger house and i figured that i may as well make all the big switches at that time. so i purchased small bunkbeds. like 1foot off the floor and he's been sleeping in that ever since. i' of course i put pillows on the floor, but i gradually took them away, and he loves his bed, so much in fact that i even took him of the bottle then too except for bedtime, and when he gets sleepy i say k babes go to bed, and he will, no fuss. Even when he's tired, on his own he'll crawl in his bed and yell mamma. it's so cute.. So as long as the bed isn't massively large, anytime is a good time.
