Is coffee itself so bad? Nope. But watch out for everything that comes with that little bean! It's not coffee that's the problem, it's what you add to it. If you add a "creamer," use low fat or soy milk. Obviously, don't add sugar, use an artificial sweetener. If you add a flavored syrup, make sure it's zero calories.

Some companies tout that caffeine is "thermogenic," that is it burns calories by increasing metabolism. There's no evidence proving that claim. Caffeine is a stimulant, but does not act the same as other appetite-lowering stimulants.

Artificial sweeteners are often the subject of stories in the popular press and on the Internet, claiming that they cause a variety of health problems, including cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, however, there's no scientific evidence that any of the artificial sweeteners approved for use in the United States cause cancer.

Others have made claims that some artificial sweeteners induce insulin release. Again those claims have no scientific basis. Numerous studies confirm that artificial sweeteners are safe for the general population. Just use them in moderation.

There's a ton of info on the Internet, unfortunately many claims are not based on sound science, and many are an attempt to help your wallet lose weight. Just call me the Cuba Gooding of health, "Show me the science."

Coffee isn't bad....where did you hear that false rumor? Wrong. Coffee is fine. Now if you are living on it, then of course it's not good for you. But if you have a cup or two at the most in the morning, you're fine. Just make sure you stay away from cream, half-n-half and all those other high fat additions.

I don't know but I've lost 40lbs twice (the second time was after my pregnancy) and I'm a coffee-holic. I know there's better things for my diet than caffeine but when it comes to weight loss, I've never had any problems with it. I drink a lot of latte's too, but I make sure it's made with non-fat milk. It actually curbs my appetite- still.

Coffee is a diurectic so it will tend to dry you out and also stimulate you. This may lead you to drink more fluids, or worse, eat to satisfy what is really thirst, consuming more calories.

Caffeine helps you burn off more calories when exercising. In moderation it shouldn't keep you from loosing weight.
