Question: I filed my taxes yesterday, and I was in need of my return so I didn't record my student loan information on the tax form because I didn't get the tax information yet. I didn't pay very much on it this year because of a deferement or a pause in paying it, so I didn't think it was a big deal. Should I be worried that i didn't include it on my taxes?

Look student loan deductions are for your benefit. The government is gaining because you did not show this deduction. What you can do is to file an amended return to show your student loan information. I would file an amended return because you the taxpayer would be the one benefitting from this, and you would probably get a larger refund.

No problem.

If it turns out that it was enough to give you a bigger refund, you can file a 1040x and amend the return and get more back.

I've had my share of problems with my student loan. What I did was go to this site and fill out the form. They helped me lower my monthly payment, and now it's not the burden that it used to be.
