I have a 6 yr old male yorkie that is having a bit of trouble breathing. Most of the time he looks like he just can't seem to catch his breath. He is on medication for what the vet diagnosed as asthma. Could that be why he is having trouble breathing? If not what could be wrong?

Have you talked to your vet about this? Maybe he needs to be re-evaluated. Explain to your vet the symptoms your dog has / is still having. If your vet doesn't seem to think that you know what you are talking about, go to another vet for a 2nd opinion. You might also have your dog xrayed so the vet can see how the lungs look. I say this because I had a Rottie who got lung cancer.

Good luck.

Poor little guy! How long has he been on this Asthma medication? Did he just start taking it? I'm thinking if he just started this medication, maybe it's not strong enough to ease his breathing or, maybe the medication just isn't agreeing with his little body, and he could be having a reaction to it. I can't imagine what it feels like not being able to breathe. Personally, I think he needs to be seen by the vet immediately, and maybe get a different medication, or get the current one adjusted. I sure hope he feels much better soon! He must feel so miserable! I hope this helps a little. Good Luck with your little man.

Have you ever had asthma. If you havent it is no fun. You cant do to strenuous of activities or you get winded. Asthma is really a constriction of the airways in the lungs which causes a person or animal to have a hard time breathing. keep him on the medication because it does help. Good luck and the answer to your question is yes it is probably the asthma that makes him unable to breathe.

If he is on asthma medication and is not getting better, I'd say it may not be asthma.

Take your dog to another vet for a second opinion. It can't hurt!
