I got a really bad ear infection a few months ago, first one I ever had- agony!!!Gt antibiotics & it cleared up.Then got another bad one in the other ear.Got antibiotics and it cleared up two weeks ago. Now I've got a little bit of pain again in both ears.I don't want more antibiotics,as they've already done funny things to me by killing all the 'friendly bacteria' so does anyone have suggestions for what to do to prevent it from coming back?

GARLIC-natural antibiotic
Bacteria can too easily develop resistence to man-made antibiotics because they are too simple. So it takes stronger antibiotics each time to take care of the problem.

For example, scientists have discovered 1 basic component of Penicillin and that is Penicillin. Garlic has at least 35 components that scientists have not figured out yet. Bacteria can not figure it out either. There are a lot of natural antibiotics: Acacia, Aloe, Echinacea, Eucalyptus, Garlic, Ginger, Goldenseal, Honey, Juniper, many more. These are in a list of the top 15. You need to introduce a natural antibiotic into your body to confuse and overcome the bacteria that are causing your infections (as well as taking preventative steps that others have mentioned).

Prepare a simple garlic oil to keep on hand for future use.
Garlic Infused Olive Oil
1 bottle olive oil
3-4 cloves garlic, peeled and quartered
Drop garlic slices into olive oil and close tightly. Let bottle sit in a dark place for 2-3 days. Strain out all of the garlic and store the bottle at room temperature. You can refrigerate it, but it will solidify. Just set it on the counter and it will begin to return to its liquid state.
USES for Garlic Oil:
EAR INFECTION:Warm some oil to a comfortable temperature (at least room temperature) and put a couple of drops into an infected ear. Also massage some oil into the skin around the ear and on the neck. This allows the oil to absorb into the lymph nodes. If you use cold oil it will cause more pain. Do this as often as desired.
EAR ACHE: Same as above OR you can peel a clove of garlic and stick it into the opening of the ear-just like you would a hearing aid. (This is more feasible for adults than children.) The pain should deminish within the hour (or soon thereafter). (personal testimony of a friend who tried this)

THRUSH: Dip finger in garlic oil and swab baby's mouth with it, or use a dropper to put a drop on baby's tongue. Do not rinse immediately. Baby may not like the taste, but this will work. Do this as often as desired. (I have two girls under 3-this works!)

COUGH WITH CHEST CONGESTION: Warm some garlic oil to a comfortable temperature. Lie the child on her back and massage the oil into the lymph nodes on her back, chest, and under her arms, paying close attention to the area around her rib cage. Then turn child on her stomach and rub her back with it. Do this as often as desired during the day, but especially before bedtime. (I have only had to do this 2 nights in a row to get results).

STAPH INFECTION: That's right- staph infection-namely nasal impetigo. Use a cotton swab to apply garlic oil to the inside of infected nare(s). Do this all day long whenever you think about it. This may take a few weeks (longer if you only treat once or twice a day). After some time, you will notice that your nostrils are not as sore to the touch as they were before you applied the oil. Impetigo on other parts of the body-legs, arms, etc.? Similarly apply garlic oil to sores. (personal experience)

SORE THROAT: Put a couple of drops of garlic oil onto the back of the throat. Then massage oil onto the outside of throat area. It may take a while (20-40 minutes) to feel results, but it beats taking medication. You can even teach a child to do this.

My rule of thumb with garlic oil is: If it is an infection, try garlic oil.
My midwife even told me to put some on my lower eyelid when I had an infection. It did burn a little, but it healed the infection.
Garlic oil can be irritating to the skin, so you might want to add a little more olive oil to it before applying it directly to the skin.

*NOTE: There is a risk of botulism when dealing with homemade garlic oils (if the garlic remains in the oil). Here is a reference:
"When raw garlic is stored in oil, Clostridium botulinum (botulism) bacteria can grow. These mixtures must be refrigerated to slow bacterial growth. After 2 weeks of refrigeration, the increased number of bacteria will become a food safety hazard. Therefore, these mixtures should not be refrigerated longer than 2 weeks.

When garlic is immediately removed after flavoring oil, the bacteria will not have a "food source" for growth. The flavored oil can be stored safely at room temperature."

P.S. Eating yogurt can help replace that "friendly" bacteria.

No more antibiotics! If you're still young, you don't wanna take anymore of that nasty stuff! My advice to you would be to first find the root cause for your ear infection- are you slightly overweight? Overweight people tend to be higher prone to ear infections. Or was is a flu (this usually being the most common cause) that led up to the ear being infected by the virus. Furthermore, your body's immune system must be weaker than before you took the antibiotics; so it cannot fend off the virus that has returned to affect your ears again. Taking more antibiotics will only worsen the condition. Take multivitamin and vitamin supplements to boost your immunity levels and naturally the body will resist the virus which are the sole cause for your infection. There are topical creams available at your local pharmacy; ask about it. Additionally, I cannot stress how damaging to the body the antibiotics can be. Your infections are resistant to the antibiotics they gave you. You need a different type to clear it up for good. As far as killing the "friendly" bacteria, make sure you eat 2 small yogurts everyday that you are on the antibiotic and then for 1 week afterwards--because the antibiotic is still working inside you for a week after you finish it.

Prevention is the best way to avoid an ear infection. Because the Eustachian tubes are connected to the sinuses, many nasal sprays have appeared on the market to help flush out the build up and bacteria in the Eustachian tubes as well as the nasal passages and the sinuses.

Many of the nasal sprays and other medicines available include xylitol (http://www.xlear.com/articles/xylitol.aspx), which is a natural substance found in fruits and vegetables and used in our everyday metabolism. Xylitol is looks and tastes like sugar, though it contains fewer calories and zero net carbs (http://www.xlear.com/xylosweet/articles/net-carbs.aspx). Xylitol is a natural bacteria repellant used to prevent more than just ear infection. Xylitol Glossary of Prevention and Benefits (http://editorials.arrivenet.com/hea/article.php/4728.html) explains more of the benefits associated with the use of xylitol.

In understanding ear infection and its symptoms, prevention becomes the natural step. Xylitol as a leading ingredient is proven to reduce ear infection risk.

If you have an ear infection, it wont clear without antibiotics. It could well be the after effects of an ear infection, resulting in a build up of wax in the ear. This can be painfull also. You could try ear drops from the chemist for this ( no prescription needed ). if this failes then you must see your GP for advice.

My daughter had real bad ear infections when she was younger and ended up having to have tubes put in her ears, now i think after a certain age they won't put tubes in, im not sure though. hers was so bad to where she lost some hearing out of her left ear, but after the tubes were put in most of her problems was cleared up. that was about 5 years ago and i can only think of one time since then that shes had a minor ear infection, good luck (don't shrug off an ear infection, it can do some serious damage over time).

Generally when I feel an ear ache coming on I drip a bit of peroxide into my ear with an eyedropper - just one or two drops - and that usually cleans out whatever grossness is going on in there and making me sick. Just be careful that you don't do it too often!

Get your ears syringed by the doc (deep cleaned), always keep them really dry after showering by rolling up a stick of twisted toilet paper (from 2 sheets) then deep drying/cleaning them by twisting it in then out gently. It's wet/damp that causes infections/hate them too!

Use that peroxide thing, its the brown bottle... its better than alcohol because it doesn't sting but much better. When you use it (if you use it) you can hear little bubbly things, and your ear turns white, but cleans the infection pretty sweet. I got 7 ear piercings hahaha, it should work.
