I have a talker!!!!!!?

Question

Dog constantly barks at everything. I have tried doing everything but getting her a shock collar, but i think we will have to. At what age is appropriate for this? She is a almost 6 month old Min Pin and weighs about 9 lbs. Can anyone suggest some collars that they have used and had sucess with?

Do you realize that with some of the shock collars it isn't only barking that sets them off? An airplane flying over, a sudden loud noise, etc. can trigger them also. Pretty soon the poor dog won't know what she's being punished for.
Try spending lots of time with her and introducing her to new things and people slowly.
The most effective method I've found with my chihuahuas (who are known for always having something to say!) is to roll up a section of the newspaper. When they start barking I say, "NO!" If that doesn't do it, I slap the paper against my leg. If there is still no response, I whale the tar out of the coffee table or whatever object of furniture I'm standing nearest to. I know that sounds demented, but it sure gets the desired response! They immediately stop and get away from whatever I'm beating on because they don't like the noise.

You should find someone to work with you and your dog and train you. Or you can teach your dog yourself with training. Training your dog not to bark will take time and patience, no quick fix overnight.

I know my 7 month old min pin is a barker. She growls at every noise, she barks at people. She end up learning to to sit on top of my couch top and look at the window to bark at people.

She went in public barking. The trainer told me that I should say no. I have to keep repeating it to her (even though it makes me look like a dork). When she doesn't bark I reward her with praise or a treat.

It can work for you. Everytime she barks say no, over and over until she stops. Then say good girl or give her a treat. Eventually she'll learn to stop. There is no "quick fix" to training your dog the correct way.


I allow her to bark because I feel that's good for safety wise on my part; however, she knows that when I say no to barking she stops or if she contines to bark I just cover her mouth for 10 seconds and let go and she stops. I praise her. But all and all she's still a barker on some occasions.

As for the shock collar, I think those are cruel and unecessary for dogs. Miniature pinschers are just naturally a big dog in a small dog's body and they like to be nosey and watch everything.

You should never just buy a shock collar and put it on your dog and start shocking her. Shock collars should be used as a last resort ONLY with a qualified trainer. Improper use of an e-collar can cause harm to your dog and make your problem worse. Find a trainer and only use the collar at their recommendation, which should be the last thing you try after using their training methods.

Buying a shock collar is a horrible thing to get your dog! How would YOU like it if everytime you said something you would get shocked? You would be traumatized for life! She's six months old and still a puppy, she wants to play and she wants attention.
She knows if she barks she'll get your attention, even if you're hollaring at her, it's still attention to her. Try spending more time with her, and if that doesn't work, try a trainer and they'll tell you what to do.

Its humane and I don't know what I'd do without it. I really don't like shock collars at all, and, from past experience, I don't reccoment them.

Its cheaper if you just buy a squirt gun.... Every time she barks squirt some water on her.... Its the best way... Mine learned in 3 days
