My ipod Nano fell in some water. I forgot to turn the hold switch when drying it so it turned on. I turned it off but now it has some strange hissing sound coming from it. Can it still work?

the hissing sound only comes when a button is pressed on it. I put it in my purse and it must have bumped against something. After a few minutes it stops.

The outside is completely dry right now but it feels very cold.

How long should I wait before turning it on again?

I left my ipod outside in the rain for 2 weeks. It took about 2 months before it started working almost normal. Now it freezes up every now and then.

Your circuit board may be having problems. Let me ask..which kind of iPod nano is it? Is it white or black with a mirror backing or is it the new shiny ones with different colors. If it is the white or black one with the mirror backing you can use a putty knife and pry the thing appart. Start at the bottom and wedge the putty knife inbetween the white or black plastic part and the mirror backing. Dont go to close to the screen you can break it. Once its open, take a hairdryer and dry all the parts and make sure all the water is out of it. Now, put the cover back on, make sure it snaps back on. Now turn it on and see if it is ok. If it is not, then you'll need to take it to an iPod store and see if they can repair it. The most IMPORTANT thing when going to an apple store with abroken item to do is to NOT SAY YOU DROPPED IN WATER!! Make sure you tell them that it was something else, like you took it out of your bag and it was just like that.

Thats a video of a guy taking apart an iPod nano, you dont have to screw everything out just go ahead and pry the top part off the nano like the guy is doing with the knife.

You should have been more careful and not drop it in water.
Said this, I will say that electronics and water don't mix. The least you ever want is drop any electronic equipment in water. The fact that is very dry and clean inside doesn't mean that by now it might have oxidation inside, which makes things worse, because iron conducts electricity, your electronic components are in short-circuit, and it is worse than before.

If the unit is out of warranty and you knew how, I would have opened and dry it out very well inside, then put in a warm place (don't put it in the microwave oven please hehe) so the extra water would evaporate quick. - But I am afraid by now it is too late and your equipment is oxidized inside, the electronic components are short-circuited with one another and I am afraid to say your unit is probably lost, and the only solution is send it to the factory and have them repair it...... but depending on how much you paid for your unit, that could cost as much as buying another one. - Find out how the factory asks to fix it, and if it's worth it to you pay for it and if it's too much or not worth it, you'll have to buy another one.

I hope this helped.
