I met this man at a friends party a few months ago and he was nice and cute.....I was interested.
I found him on myspace recently and sent him a message saying "hello."
I noticed he had his profile set to "In a relationship"

Anyway I wrote; " I wanted to meet you for dinner next month when I come into your town but I see you are taken so forget that."

He wrote back, "What? Now I cannot meet you for dinner?"

He basically is acknowledging he has a g/f and he knows I'm interested in him.

Should I write back and invite him to dinner, or just forget it because he is taken and this will lead to something bad??

It's only dinner, but since you like him..and he knows it, it could lead to something bad.
Invite him, but keep your distance, because it sounds as if he might be trying to creep on his girlfriend by his response back to you.

As you said "just forget it because he is taken and this will lead to something bad".
You don't want to start something with someone like that - you already know that he would cheat, so, don't you think the chances are very good that he would do the same on you? Chances are he would only want you for a one night fling anyway.

You should just forget it. He's a player. If you go to dinner with him, he'll end up cheating on his girlfriend and you wouldn't want that done to you. Besides, if he left his girlfriend (which I highly doubt cuz they'll keep them on the side at least for a while while they date you) for you, he'll end up cheating on you as well. Cheaters don't change, believe me!

only if you want to be known as a homewrecker or something much worse . Leave it alone girl before you find yourself in some serious trouble .

invite for three,,,,,,,,,,if not he hasnt told her and that isnt good is it.make your decision based on what part in his life you are prepared to play but do bear in mind,,the closer you get to someone who is taken the harder it is to let go if you are interested in them in that way.dont be anyone,s second fiddle.

find out more about his relationship...you never know he might be on the outs with it. What are your intentions?
