Okay heres the issue. I have two cats. They are 8 months old and sisters. They have both been fixed which I thought would calm them down. They get into everything and chew on everything. At night they are more hyper and run around and cause a lot of noise. I love them to death but I really wish they were mellow cats. My roomate has a cat too. She is 10 months old and has always been calm. She doesn't jump into the fridge or the cabinets like the other two. She is so mellow. How do I get my cats more mellow.

My kitten was CRAZY when he was little. He is still kind of a bad a**, but he has mellowed out a lot (he's only a year old now). I would try to wear him down by playing with him a lot. I invested in toys for my cat that don't take a lot of energy on my part so I can play with him longer. For example, laser pointers are great and you can get the cat to run around a lot while you are staying in the same place. You have to be very consistent in your training and find a way to deter the kitties from their bad behavior without scaring them. When my kitty was bad, I would try spraying him with a water bottle, clapping my hands loudly or throwing something by him to distract him. None of it worked very effectively. Then I figured out that he would listen to me when I used a specific tone in my voice and call him by his full name (I never yell at him) as long as I catch him when he's about to do something bad. He listens to my sister when she counts to 3 for him. It's kind of funny that we talk to him like he's a person, but it works.

Just because you get them fixed doesn't mean they'll calm down exactly. My cat got spayed and she was just as normal as before except spraying and being in heat. My boy was neutered but just as wild...he has calmed down a bit now that he's getting older. Your cats are young and will eventually grow out of their craziness. Possibly you should play with them a little more. Every cat has their own personalities... your roommates cat could be calm because that is just her nature. You will have to put in more time to discipline your cats if you don't want them jumping on counters etc.

The best thing to use is Feliway. It is a great product and works great. It keeps them calm and stress free. I would also play with them a lot before bedtime so that they will tire and sleep most of the night. Get a laser light that will get them worn out in no time.
Give them time, as they get older they will mellow out.

its just the cats. My cat used to wrestle with me, when he was a kitten. He is now 3 years old and a fat lazy house cat. when before i couldn't keep him off the walls. At night there is more to get into and its quiet they have to entertain themselves by doing something. even if it is keep you up all night by running laps throughout the house. Good luck and don't give up they are just Cats... A personality of their own.

You can give them treats if that doesn't work then prove that you are the alfa male if they are male and if they are female then love on them and treat them with respect.
