for some reason after a few months the autorun option on windows seems to disable,i have investigated this and have found a few reasons
i found by removing the active x control"macromedia flash player" this sometimes returns the autorun finction however this affects certain websites that need this so this cant be a option
i also found that round about the same time autorun disables ,the cd/dvd-rom icons change to just cd-drive,this isnt a problem ,just a bit annoying when you need to know which drive to use
upon intensive research i found that microsoft have made a hotfix for your problem, you can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c680a7b6-e8fa-45c4-a171-1b389cfacdad&DisplayLang=en,its a exe. file and while running the program you are advised to insert and eject the drive to simulate the working of it,by doing this the autofix has more chance of success
trying system restore is another option but this depends on how far back your restore points go,and this method isnt allways successful
i hope this helps
good luck

Go to "My Computers" on the desktop, double-click on the CD or DVD drive that you inserted the software disc into, look around for "Setup.exe" and you would be able to install the program.

Some really old software use "Install.bat", "Install.exe" or other similiar sounding name. Look for those if you cannot find Setup.exe in the software disc.

Yep, go to My Computer, double-click on the disk & look for a file called either "run" or "install". Double-click that 'un.

Hope that helps.

Go to "My Computer" (it will either be on your desktop or in your start menu), click the icon with the CD on it (or it might have changed to the logo of whatever your installing). From there, click on either "setup", "install", or "autorun".

Yes, go to My Computer, double click on the drive icon and you can find and double click on the .EXE file.

OR - you have a desktop icon for your CD drive right click and select OPEN

You can click on start, my computer, then click on the drive that the disk is in.

Then click on autorun or any other program that shows up on the Cd. They usually place them on the root of the CD for ease of finding.
