If you still have romantic feelings for him, you probably won't have much success at just being friends, at least on your end. Put some distance and space between the two of you, if you can, if you have to see him on a daily basis (school) walk a different way to class, just do things to try to avoid him. Maybe someday, you'll look back on your relationship with fondness and then you can be friends.

It probably seems impossible after breaking up with a person you were involved with and had feelings for. There is however a way to be friends with you ex, but there are boundaries at the same time. Just have to remember that what you and your ex had is no longer considered. Being friends with him means that you hang out with him whenever, you and him have time, double date, go to the mall or do what you and him did when you became friend right before you and him started dating. Keep some distance when out so people don't suspect anything that knew you and him dated. You and him can choose what days hangout and days to do your own thing.

It is extremely hard, especially when you have ended on a positive note. My bf and I broke up in 2000 and here we are in 2007 still going to dinners, movies and job functions with each other. I even helped him select his new home he had built, I spend long weekends over his house, we sleep in the same bed and he still comes over to my side of the bed to cuddle like we used to when we were a couple. After actually being apart and having had other relationships we found ourselves having hard-pounding sex one year for his birthday. I try and convince myself not to call him, but I end up doing it and he calls and confides in me at the same time. I also do all of his baking for him. The sad part is that I still love him and want him, but I know it will never work. So when you find the answer, let me know!

It's really not best to be friends at all. If he is doing things that irritate you, why hang around with him and make yourself miserable?

Listen, saying lets be friends is a nice person's way to say, "hey I am not interested anymore." If this guy has any brains in his head, he will realize the signs and move on.

Don't blame yourself for saying it when you really don't mean it, you are just trying to be nice.

Probably the best thing to say to him is "Hey, I'm sorry I wanted this to work with you but I am not interested in you romantically anymore."

If he gets mean, unleash with both barrels :) Call him ordinary, boring, whatever you would like to...that's what usually happens to me LOL just kidding on this last part by the way, don't be mean.

Ain't gonna happen. Accept the idea that you will probably not be friends and let it go at that.

set the boundaries - call once in awhile - don't go out of your way for him - stay busy with other people - absolutely no flirting/kissing/sex.

I don't think it's possible...especially if you still have feelings for him or visa versa. I've tried it and it just doesn't work.
