I naturally have light brown hair and would like to dye it a couple shades darker using Clairol Lasting Color, a non-permanent dye that supposedly washes out after 28 shampoos. After a month or so, will the color really be completely gone? Or will my hair start to grow out and leave an ashy, washed-out color behind?

Thanks for your help!

Non Permanent Hair Dye

Hi Ya
Check very closley as some products say none perminant. Any hair colour which mixes two bottles together is going to grow out and leave roots. As one of the bottles will be a mild peroxide. It also depends on the hair condition if it is dry or snapped off or it has been lightened by the sun the colour may grab in certain place and it could appear darker and take longer to fade. Best to stick to things like shaders or similar which will be found in one sachet. Even natural henna which gives the hair a gloss will last some time.
Hope this helps

I have light brown hair as well, and let me tell you, the color is still around after 28 rinses! The darker you dye it, the longer it will stay in. And as other responders have mentioned, it will fade. This is sometimes bad for odd colors. I dyed my hair an orangey-auburn for halloween and it's still tinted a little orange.

Non-permanent dyes on top of permanent dyes (Sun-In or that kind of thing) always stay in longer, too. What also affects how long the color lasts is how you initially apply it. If you leave the color on for longer before rinsing, it will stay longer on your hair.

If you do not dye your hair a color drastically different than your own, you shouldn't have too bad roots. As the color begins to fade it will look more like natural highlights, as opposed to a large contract between roots and dyed hair.

I have to tell you that this is a BAD idea. You have no idea what's in those products. You don't know what level of peroxide is in that color. It also won't tell you that there is peroxide in that color, they'll just use a fancy name for it that you wouldn't even understand that it is, in fact, a peroxide. Peroxide is what opens your cuticle and allows the chemical to penetrate, whether it's 10 volume peroxide or 50, the color has to get in there and stay in there somehow, right?
When it is done professionally, yes, it will fade gradually but using something from a drug store may not and you could end up with roots that you don't need. Once you have a permanent color, it's in there until you either let it grow out or have it cut out gradually. Sounds to me like you don't want to have to worry about that just yet. Let a stylist help you, my friend! It's worth every penny!

I will. It will start going away gradually and around the "28 shampoos" it will be almost completely gone.

the color will eventually dull out, no matter what it's damaging your hair, so it may tend to be dry. be sure to get some leave in conditioners & hot oil treatments. Those really help!

From my experience, it lasts longer than you'd expect.
