More faith, less worry. You will continue on for life is eternal. Energy never goes away it just changes form.
I have found those who fear death the most have never truly lived. Those who live life to the fullest never fear death.
Just know that the acronym for fear is:

You are really asking "What survives death?" We know its not the body. Popular religions say that the soul survives and they depict the soul as having the same "personality" as when the person was alive. So the question becomes, can the personality, with its emotions and particulars survive death?
Science says "NO!", the personality and emotions are just neuro-chemicals, when the body dies, the personality is no more. But that only one point-of-view (its called materialism).
Another point of view is that there are things that can't be explained, especially by science. When it comes to these things only faith can make "sense". This was the perspective of Blaise Pascal, one of the most brilliant minds in history.
Another point of view is that soul, personality, materialism, whatever are all just IDEAS. We lose ourselves in ideas and fail to notice the true nature of our existence. In this view the answer to you question will be another question - "What is the face you had before you were born?" and subsequently, would this not be the same face you will have after you die?
So there are many ways to make "sense" of your issue. And you don't have to believe any of them.

This is a good guess. It appears that we will go to be with the Lord when we die .2Cr 5:8 We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Then there seems to be a Resurrection at a later point in time. This could be a literal body of some kind. Remember Jesus had thomas put his fingers into the holes in his hands? That was after he was risen.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
1Th 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

I don't know if you are a Bible reader but here are the Bible's answer to your question.
Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead they are conscious of NOTHING at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun. 10 All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge, nor wisdom in Sheol the place to which you are going. [ Some people refer to this as HADES OR HELL but, where we go when we die is to the common grave of mankind, a place of unconsciousness, [do you know what happens to you while you sleep? it is similar to dying, you remember nothing] we go to the grave to await the resurrection. Acts 24: 15

Islam teaches us a lot about life after death. After we die, we go to a place called "barzakh", in Arabic, which is the life of the grave. Depending on what kind of person we were in this life, we may get punishment in the grave. We also see our spot in heaven or in the hell-fire.
When the end of this world happens, and all creation is dead, Allah (God) will bring us all back to life in our bodies. On this Day of Judgement, we will all be judged for what we have done in this life. It is all being recorded by angels in a very clear record. If your record is heavier in good deeds than in bad deeds, and you only worshipped one God, then God-Willing, your eternal abode will be Paradise. The Holy Qur'an describes Paradise (called Jennah) in numerous verses.
If your record is heavier in bad deeds, and you associated partners with God (i.e. that Jesus is God, or if you worshipped more than one God like in Hinduism), then, God-Willing, your home may be the Hell-Fire, who's fuel is men and stones.
God is the Most Gracious, the Most Forgiving...turn to Him and seek His pleasure. With a sincere heart, ask Him to guide you to the correct path. It's inevitable, we're all going to die, so we'd better be prepared!
I sincerely wish you all the best in your search for the truth.

God will take care of all that
If you end up going to hell,God will probably give you a body that's riddled with pain in addition to being thrown into the lake of fire.
If you go to heaven you'll probably be given a body that feel good and doesnt experience much or no pain.

The same "sociality" that exists here, will exist there. In other words, the same feelings, emotions, characteristics we have now will continue with us there. That is why this life is considered a probation and a time of learning, preparation and progress.
Because of Christ's atonement, we will be resurrected and reunited with our physical bodies. The body you have now will be perfected and restored to its perfect frame. No hair of your head will be lost, nor will any other imperfection be present.
You will be able to recognize loved ones and those you knew here.

Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
This joy or the pain have to be spiritual because the person has no body just spirit. Paul also told us that for his to live is Christ to die is gain.. It isn't taught that we become someone else. How would lose of Paul's self be gain? He is now Spirit and with God as soon each one of us maybe through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus.. Jim

Pain is spiritual. In your understanding it may appear physical, but the body turns to dust. And, you are a soul , different from spirit. Your soul is the fruit wanted. Only good fruit excepted hear. The spirit en twin4es your soul as a counselor.

Unfortunately your are trying to define something that nobody knows. Seriously, I am not trying to be mean. What will you do if you have this information. Will it change your life in any way. Do you actually think somebody does have the answer to this question?

Hell is the absence of all of the goodness of God. There will be no mistaking one for the other. In heaven your eyes will behold the King of Glory and you will fall down in awe and worship...it is inescapable. If God can create the universe by His words, he can surely enable you to recognize your loved ones.
