The Vet said that our dog probably had a stroke. He had a siezure the other day and frothed at the mouth and peed on the floor. He was riged for a few minutes while he was shaking. The Vet said that dogs are different than humans in the fact that they may be able to use the other side of the brain to heal themselves. He was acting strange before and after his siezure. He was shaking a lot like if he was very cold and getting really close to us and following us into the bathroom which he never did before. He also was climbing into the bathtub and sitting there. He doesn't like to take a bath that much. He would also growl at us for no reason. He is still acting funny. It has been about a week now.

first i'm very sorry. please know that it may take a while for things to go back and as much as u want baby him and tell him its ok remind him that growling at u or anyone is a no no. if u tell him its ok while he is growling it will confuse his already confused mind. did your vet put him on any meds for seizures? if not then i would see another vet. if so it could be the meds.

my dog many years ago had one seizure it was unexplainable as to why or what caused it it slowed him down and made him more dog aggressive. our vet put him on meds i don't remember the name i just know it causes liver enlargerment. he was only on it for a bit then whinnedoff because he never had another one

Yep, sounds like a siezure to me also. I have a 17 1/2 year old, yes 17 1/2 year old, minature poodle who had a similar episode of severe shaking and then just walked around for it seemed like hours, occasionally bumping into walls and chairs. This was just a couple months ago. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT HE FULLY RECOVERED WITHIN A DAY OR SO and there isn't any apparent lasting damage I can tell. That was his first and apparently last siezure (fingers crossed). It was very scarry but everything is fine now.

When my dog had a stroke, it was so heartbreaking. I had taken him on a hike to a lake to go camping and didn't realize what had happened. He spent the whole weekend in the lake and wouldn't get out until it was time to come home. I don't know if the cold water was something that his body needed (like your dog getting into the bathtub. Maybe the cold ceramic on his tummy helps make him feel better). When he got home, it was then that I had noticed that half of his face was drooping and he was having a hard time with his motor functions on that side of his body. I immediately called the vet and explained his symptoms. At that point, the damage had been done and there was nothing more we could do except see if he recovered.
He was very tempermental, growly and out of sorts. He certainly didn't act himself for a while.
I did a lot of physical therapy with him. I took him for long walks, played tug of war with him and his favorite toys, gave him rawhide bones for him to chew on to help strengthen the muscles in his face.
It took almost a year for him to recover fully. He has regained his eyesight, his motor functions have improved greatly and his face no longer droops.
This happened when my dog was 6 years old. He's almost 13 now and doing fine.
I wish you the very best of luck with your beloved doggy. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything works out and he that he gets well soon.

That's so sad! I'm sorry! Can or did the vet give him any medication for this strange behavior. If not, maybe can give your vet a call back, and tell him what your dog is doing, and see if he can perscribe something that would help. Hope he's better soon!
