To Fulfill His Biology: You know the old anthropological tale. A man's main job, besides killing the saber-tooth, is to spread his seed in order to ensure the survival of his genetic legacy. It's a man's biology to want to wander. Does that mean he should, or that he can't help it? Of course not. But it does mean that a man is going to have strong-extremely strong-biological urges to knock on the doors of neighboring huts. I have had this argument/discussion/conversation with dozens of men and women: Are men predestined to cheat? My answer is no, they're not-despite their biology. But often times, they do have to fight it. Especially after a pitcher and two shots of Jack.
To Get the Attention: News flash: Sure, some guys cheat because, well, maybe the sexual frequency has slowed a bit, and maybe hot-and-heavy happens at home about as often as Rob Schneider gets nominated for an Oscar. But the truth is that plenty of men who are having regular sex with their partner are also having sex with someone else. Why? Because cheating isn't just about the sex. Just as a woman who cheats may be seeking more affection than what she's getting at home, a man often cheats because he's seeking the attention that he no longer gets at home. Part of the allure of the mysterious woman isn't just to find out what she looks like naked; it's that the woman showers the man with flirtations, with seduction, with advances that make him feel like he's worthy of more than just fixing dents in the drywall.
To Get Out: I know lots of guys who simply don't have the strength to end it. They may try ("I'm just not happy"), or they may take other tactics to drive a woman away. A lot of guys simply have trouble breaking off relationships because they don't want to be perceived as that bad guy, the jerk, the insensitive lout who ended something good. So they tiptoe around the issue in hopes that she'll get so frustrated that she'll back out first. Well, if that doesn't work, then a man knows that the only way out is to commit the relationship sin that drives a woman away for good. It's not right, but it's what happens.
To Change Up His Play List: Think about what's on your iPod. You have your favorite songs you play over and over, but every once in a while, you're in the mood to hear something you haven't played in a long time. You don't need to hear it but once every month or so, but still, you appreciate the changeup. Relationships need to be like good iPods lists. You're comfortable with your routine and you like your routine, but it's always nice to change things up. What men really want in relationships (and what I suspect women also want) is to be able to take comfort in the routine of a long-term commitment, as long as there are some surprises that make it feel like a new relationship every once in a while. In order to keep the relationship strong, you've got to change the songs every once in a while. That goes for in the bedroom and out.

Ok, the hard truth is that actually both men AND women cheat. There could be many reasons why people cheat in general although usually men cheat for different reasons than women. They say that women cheat because they feel a lack of emotional connection with their guy...they cheat because of a lack of excitement (popular with the soccer moms) or they cheat because of their own personal reasons. Guys, on the other hand, cheat because they too are looking for excitement, but the excitement in the bedroom....their girl won't "do" some things or isn't explorative or adventurous whereas a "other woman" would be. guys also cheat because of a lack of availability or emotional connection but they usually manifest it in a different way.

Men will cheat if given the opportunity. They are just like that! They can be happy in their relationship and life, but if the opportunity to cheat is there, they will do it! I really believe they can't help it.
Also, I think unfaithfulness goes hand in hand with low self-value. Cheaters seek approval or fulfillment in the eyes of another person when they should be looking within themselves for any estimation of self worth.
Just like women, men cheat when there is something lacking in a relationship. Maybe he's cheating with another woman who doesn't nag or fuss at him.
Cheating is one of the most selfish acts a person can commit, because despite the fact that they entered into a relationship with another person, they choose to act as though they are the only one whose feelings, needs, and desires matter.
I think if people took half the time and effort they would put into sneaking around and channeled that energy into making a great relationship, they would realize that, most of the time, what they are looking for has always been with them.

I 'really don't know,' either. I've finally found a man who will NEVER cheat, and I knew that long before he and I ever 'fell in love' (we were just 'getting to be friends' when he told me this, and I still believe him) and I am married to him now, and have been for ten years ... so instead of asking 'why men cheat' perhaps you should simply 'look around' and see that there are a lot of men who don't cheat and never would, and get to be friends with them, and maybe you'll fall in love with one, too, someday.

Well...why do women cheat???? Don't say men are the only cheaters...both sexes cheat....but its a matter of insecurity, and self esteem. When a guy cheats, its usually because he wants to feel power, and higher than other people, knowing that he can get what he wants. Its a battle of low-self esteem really...wanting to rise above....but when a guy is raised right, and is confident with himself, and knows what he wants in a girl, he wont cheat.

Lots of reasons, If they are single they like to see if they can get away with it, or they feel they are not getting enough attention from just one person.
If married, they feel their partner is not preforming well enough for them[ they seek attention somewhere else].
Their wife's have become fat and lazy, house is never clean , meals are never ready when they get home from work [ they look for some better suited for themselves] they won't divorce her cause it would cost them to much money [so stay married and cheat on the spouse].
There are a lot of reasons. I could write a book on all the excuses both men and women find it necessary to cheat.....

I think men cheat b/c they know that they can get away with it and that the girl they are with want leave them any way. Also they are trying to see if what they have in front of them is worth staying with or what they have on the side is better.

Men are vile, ooze seething creatures that dwell at the bottom of murky lakes feeding on the detritus of society.
Men are disgusting ignorant blissfully unaware of the savagery they exude onto the soft delicate petal that is our mother earth.
Get over it already !!
Men cheat cause women Cheat unless they are gay then they cheat because they like the other guy more.
Cheat if you must but do it well or don't cheat at all.

Why do women cheat? I don't know the answer to that one either. There are both men and women who cheat. To suggest that one sex is more prone to isn't accurate. I have no idea why people cheat. There are obviously lots of reasons and justifcations they give when they get caught. You'd have to ask a cheater straight up, why did you do it?

The same reason women cheat. There is something missing in the relationship and they need to fill a void.
