As soon as your child can drink a sufficient amount of fluids from a regular cup (and not be too messy about it), you can get rid of the sippy! There is no clear age, just whenever your child is ready to drink from a regular cup!

A speach therapist will tell you around 2 is the best time to remove sippy cups. But that doesn't mean you have to live with messes from now on cups with staws or staw type spouts are perfectly acceptable and help them develpomentaly. In the care we still use sports bottles of straw cups with my 6 and 3 year olds.

My son is going on 4 and still uses a sippy cup sometimes. Usually, we give him a regular cup with meals at the table. But for playtime (or anytime away from the table) we give him a sippy cup. Basically, just so we know it won't spill.

Well in a daycare setting they eliminate sippy cups at 2. Which children can control if they are given small amounts of liquid. However if your at home and don't want to deal with a spill or mess on the couch etc. You be the one to decide as long as you offer a regular cup at meal times so the child becomes accustomed to it.

my son is 3 1/2 and still takes a sippy cup, there are times we will give him a regular cup ....usually when he's drinking water...daughter went off them at around 2 but she wasnt nearly as active as he is....the speech thing I've heard before but my son speaks very clearly and my daughter had to have speech therapy...he speaks better at 3 than she did at 5 so in my opinion that makes no difference. Good Luck with whatever you decide!!! :)

I think the last time my kids used one was when they were 3. By then, they should be able to drink from a regular cup or at least through a straw.
