It's disheartening to see many Christians here who are so adamantly anti-evolution... when they haven't the first inkling of what it actually is all about. All they know is that it contradicts their precious little Bible and this is reason to attack it with strawmen, fallacious arguments, and random anti-science tirades and pedantic copy-paste jobs.
Why is it so offensive to accept the fact that we are indeed animals and we all come from apes?

As expected, I'm seeing the standard Christian tripe, which is basically "because God did it."
Fine.
Explain your tailbone.

Again with "just a theory".
Gravity is "just a theory" too...
Calling the theory of evolution "only a theory" is, strictly speaking, true, but the idea it tries to convey is completely wrong. The argument rests on a confusion between what "theory" means in informal usage and in a scientific context. A theory, in the scientific sense, is "a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena" [Random House American College Dictionary]. The term does not imply tentativeness or lack of certainty. Generally speaking, scientific theories differ from scientific laws only in that laws can be expressed more tersely. Being a theory implies self-consistency, agreement with observations, and usefulness. (Creationism fails to be a theory mainly because of the last point; it makes few or no specific claims about what we would expect to find, so it can't be used for anything. When it does make falsifiable predictions, they prove to be false.)

Sassy, "Dr" Kent Hovind's offer is so conveniently crafted via strawmen and warped language that it is impossible to meet his challenge.
A detailed explanation of everything wrong with his dishonest challenge is here:

It is unfortunate there are so many anti-evolution Christians, because they do not need to be in conflict with each other. I am Christian, yet I believe in evolution. Evolution, in it's purest form, merely states that species evolve, but there is no actual answer for the origin of the "mechanical machine" which makes up even the most simple organism. Evolution can really only get you so far (that is what I have found in my studies). Additionally, just because one believes in evolution does not mean they believe mankind came from monkeys (as there remains significant differences between the species). Evolution also does not contradict the Bible, despite what some people may believe or argue (as the Bible doesn't set actual time frames during the creation or life of the Earth). So, in the end, I would say that some of the resistance is due to ignorance and some just due to actaul belief, which we must respect (as should Christians respect those who believe in evolution). Oh, and it may be offensive to tell people they come from apes because the Bible teaches man was created in God's image.

heavnbound:
Evidence has been given to contradict any argument against evolution put forward by the creationists. But creationist have a habit of ignoring that and posting the same question over again.
Creationist thought program:
10 Bible is right
20 Evolution contradicts the bible
30 Evolution is wrong
40 Therefore creationism is right
50 Therefore there is a creator

Those who are uninformed know differently. Read the Biblical Basis For Modern Science by Morris..All Science has it's roots in theology not religion. Secular Humanism is a religion and if you can Prove unequivocally Evolution the way Darwin's theory states, there is a $250,00.00 Reward if you go to http://www.raycomfort.com and Link to Dr Hovind. No Questions asked! Just present Your theory! Have a Good Day!

St. Augustine about 1700 years ago made the similar remark. Saying that Christians defeat their own cause by denying what appears to be God's way of doing his work. The answer to your question, I think, is religious insecurity.
In response to your additional details: How many of you have had your wisdom teethes pulled? Do you honestly believe they were never there for any purpose. Of course they were. It is just that we have evolved to where we no longer need them.

Christian beliefs are in no way compatible with evolution or most science in general. A Deist may be able to believe in a God and acknowledge evolution at the same time. But it is impossible for a Christian; it’s all in the bible.

Part of being a christian is becoming willfully ignorant of the world around you. They are deranged lunatics that believe any ridiculous nonsense because they think that their book of fairy tales is true. To deny such basic facts as evolution requires one to be extremely close minded and tremendously foolish. It defies any and all logic.

The thing to remember is that evolution is still just a theory - a hypothesis, a speculation, an unproven assumption.
"From the beginning of the Creation God made them male and female..."-- Jesus (Mk. 10:6)
Scripture says God SPOKE all things into existence with His Word:
" By the Word of the Lord were the heavens created, and all the host by the breath of His mouth. For HE SPAKE AND IT WAS DONE; HE COMMANDED AND IT STOOD FAST". (psalm 33:9)

I don't think its so much anyone being anti-anything as being pro-ego. I expect it's because people like to square off in polar opposites and bash away at each other, seeing themselves as heroic defenders of whichever point of view they support.
I think that's why no one is inclined to comment on posts by agnostics. There is no absolute point of view to oppose.

Because they are Christian and were created by God. They're relatives are not apes. They were made in God's image.
You have the right to believe whatever you want, just as I have the right to believe what I want. It doesn't mean we have to agree. Evolution and Creation are two opposing sides. You cannot believe both. You cannot believe that things evolved into another life form and still believe that God created things according to "their kind". A true Christian will not be waived from their belief, science has not proven to me that humans evolved from another life form. Everything to this day is still producing "according to their kind". I don't feel the need to question God.
