General Petraeus said that in the event the Iraqis did not meet their commitments, he would consult with Defense Secretary Robert Gates on how to respond.

In his opening statement, Petraeus, 54, painted a grim picture of conditions in Iraq.

"The situation in Iraq is dire," he said. "The stakes are high. There are no easy choices. The way ahead will be very hard. ... But hard is not hopeless." However, this could end up like another Vietnam. The Insurgents are not easy to beat like we were told 4 years ago. The War supporters were so wrong about how this war was a slam dunk. Now our troops are getting beat day in and day out. It is dire!

It is dire because if we were to lose this war it would give Iran control of the Middle East, and be the beginning of World War III. And we would be starting out with the short end of the stick. And for some reason you would be happy about this. It will affect everyone, whether you support Bush or not.

the middle east is important strategically for any land based military operations. it also is important for the Oil it holds. so it is important to keep it stable and friendly as possible. but we upset the balance with the unprovoked attack on Iraq and now it is destabilized so we must repair the damage we wrought.
We set Saddam up in power and used him to keep Iran at bay
(divide and conquer). Then he got difficult so we made the mistake of taking him out with no plan to replace him.
This was a big mistake by an ignorant president. We must be very careful who we turn our military over to. The pres is commander in chief. This is an awsome power and great responsibility. This is really the first time that a pres has so badly mishandled his responsibilities and abused this power. It is tragic. Maybe someday it will be over. Maybe it will get much much worse as we pay the price for his mistakes and misdeeds.
Presidents should have to pass an intelligence test and be more than just age 35 and popular to get elected. Our voters are already ignorant so if you add an ignorant president to the mix this is what you get. Stupid is what stupid does.

Even more fabrications to COPYRIGHTED articles, by the habitual LIAR named Erudite....

The fabrication:
"" However, this could end up like another Vietnam. The Insurgents are not easy to beat like we were told 4 years ago. The War supporters were so wrong about how this war was a slam dunk. Now our troops are getting beat day in and day out. It is dire!"

Yet another piece of filth propaganda that he inserts to fool everyone and convert them over to his warped little view...

A pathetic attempt though

And as always... for anyone who wishes to read the REAL and UNALTERED article, it is linked in my sources section

The Saudis support the sunnis (read your history), the Iranians support the shi'a, both have lots of oil money, and we're supporting a guy no one wants as president (Maliki). How do you think that'll turn out, and do you really expect the Iraqi "army" to do anything other than turn and run when attacked?

Yahoo Soapbox indeed, Econdrone. This is yet another of erudite's endless useless rants that he posts here so he can get his jollies by cherry-picking his "best" answers.

Instead of actually trying to DO something, he posts and posts and posts, and lies repeatedly, and plagiarizes and alters news articles to fit his own twisted world view.

Thanks for another two cheapo points, erudite. Troll on!
