There is plenty of empty space. Food production and distribution will be the problem.

Well, since in every measurable sense (food production, standard of living, resource availablilty), humanity is doing much better with over 6 billion people than we did with only 1 billion people, then there is no evidence to say that we will be worse off with 10 billion people. Nothing at all except the Chicken Little's of this world screaming that the sky is falling.
And, yes, per capita food production, resource availability, and standard of living are continuing to improve. Just one guage of that is what we now define as poverty in the USA. Back in the 1930s, it was the real risk of starvation, let alone having somewhere to live. A while ago, ABC interviewed a "man in poverty" standing in line at the local food bank. This man lived in a studio apartment and had cable TV, nor was he skinny or looking unhealthy. Yeah, that's real poverty...not.
Overpopulation is a myth...as people will figure out in the next 50 years. The reason we have famines and hundreds of millions of people people living in real poverty is because of politics, corruption, and evil dictators, not because of population levels.

Well...look at it this way...most of the people live in the northern hemisphere, and as the population grows the earth will become top heavy, and roll over, dumping a whole bunch of people off and then there should be space again...

well by the time Earth has over 10 billion people, I think we'll already develop technology which could be used to build colonies on the moon.
Look out space, here we come.

current estimates suggest our global population will reach 9 billion and then begin to decline again. people aren't having ten kids as much anymore and some countries even have negative growth
however, to prepare we definitely need to figure out how to feed everyone and make sure our power and transportation network is sustainable, otherwise life will be no fun for anyone

No we don't. We can always rely on wars, terror attacks, epidemics, drought and famine.
