I see two possible solutions:
1. Don't play the music so loud.
2. Rent another venue for the party.

Happy birthday!

First of all, it's a common misconception that egg crates muffle sound. This isn't the case. It's used solely for acoustical reasons for the room in which you are in. The next room over, one could still hear the music as loud as ever, if maybe a little unclear.

There is no way to sound proof an entire apartment. Professional audio booths and rooms aren't even entirely sound proof. You're still going to share a common air duct with your neighbors and it's illegal to try to cover those up. So basically your only option is like everyone else said... turn the music down, rent a building, or expect to explain the situation to the cops.

Either way, have a happy birthday. And don't drink and drive.

Try 'eggcrate' foam ... but that is 'expensive' if you want to cover your whole apartment including the ceilings and floors ... you could also use cork, but that is even more expensive. If your neighbors are 'gonna' call the cops on you and cops 'roam the complex' why don't you 'rent' a 'rave space' elsewhere, so both you and your 'unfriendly neighbors' will be safer. It would be a lot 'cheaper' in the end, because you stand less chance of going to jail or even just getting 'hassled'.

Well, my first suggestion is to keep the noise level down. Don't play your music so loud it shakes the walls. Keep it a decent level. Turn it down after midnight or even sooner.

Let the neighbors know you are having some friends over. If you like your neighbors, invite them over. Make them feel at home.

Since you already know the police will be coming, do something about it. Keep the noise down. Tell your guests you are going to be a good neighbor and ask them to do likewise.

Otherwise, I would be ready for the police and get on good terms with them.

Being beligerrent toward cops never ends well. For all we know, they only found his ID, or proof of it being his house after they had already detained him. From the cop's side of the story, it sounds like this is more likely. Or they were checking for other signs of robbery to make sure he wasn't being held captive in his own home and he started to try and stop the process in a very resistant manner, so they pegged him with being disorderly. Either one is possible and likely.

How about inviting or warning the neighbors?

Alternatively, give the neighbors movie tickets or a gift card for dinner for that night--whole lot less expensive than a noise ordinance fine--plus you're doing something nice and positive for them.

i don't know about soundproofing other than make sure windows and doors stay closed....i think most people are understanding about parties if you warn them in advance (maybe even invite then) and if you keep noise down after a certain hour...try talking to them:
"my birthday is this friday and i'll be having a party...you're welcome to stop by...we'll try and keep noise down after 10:00, but if there's any problem feel free to come talk to me...thanks"
...most people will tolerate quite a bit if they expect it and if they know it's a one time thing and not the beginning of many sleepless nights, also it shows you're considerate of their peace and quiet

the answer here is obvious, go speak to your neighbours, explain in advance that you're having a party and there is likely to be noise but its a one off, give them an invite and thank them for their time, no-one likes noise where they live but if its explained up front i think they're way more likely to be tollerant, happy birthday, have a blast! (not literally)

i once read that egg cartons in every corner of the room helps.
BUT, i and my "guests" were drunk and high. Somene knocked at the door and i opened it with a pair of hemostats w/ burning joint smoking.... AND, it was the police... i, stat, started closing the door. All they said was "turn the music down, OK????"
We all freaked out, but IT made the experience. Crazy fun!!!
get my drift????? ps wheres the invite, dude??? see how ya R?

Invite the neighbors. They won't call the cops then.
