Our younger male cat is getting bigger, plus he is absrudly long haired, so my wife and I wondered if the older cat is getting intimidated and trying to assert his aplha maleness. We also had a guest, and the cats always act weird when we have guests.

I am not so worried about the moungint, but we are worried this might lead to spraying.

Anyone have similiar experiences with their cats?

Hi there...when spayed/neutered cats mount one another it is establishing dominance--alpha/top cat. Scientist have observed that this is very commonly seen among feral cat colonies.

Could be 1 of 2 things... Either the younger male has been out hanging around a female in season and got her scent on him OR the dominance theory where by the older cat is mounting the younger male to assert himself as dominant over him

That could be, but I would just watch them and discourage the mounting when you see it. Cats are territorial little guys, and he is probably just trying to assert his boundries in the house. Cats do act strange sometimes with guests, especially if they do not know them well. I bet they dissapear or get a little wild? Its all normal. As far as the spraying, if it happens, you will just have to find ways to discourage it. Good luck!

Since they are both neutered, it's a dominance thing--and it's now being shown off as to "who's boss" to all your company. I'm sure your friends are enjoying the side-show. Don't worry about it. Both cats and dogs will do this from time-to-time.

My cat is neutered, he mounts even us! But he never sprays and this is possibly an act of dominance, you are right.

It is just the male wanting what he can't have since he is neutered

Sometimes they just get confused. Homosexual behavior is common in the animal kingdom.
