I want this year to be the year that I finally make my move. I have wanted this all my life! I have family in CA but want to be independent. How much money will I need? How is the job market? I would love any ideas or suggestions! Also, I am trying to think of a way to make extra money to save....any ideas?

I would highly suggest moving with a friend so that you can share rent and not have to live alone. Plus, making the big change from the east coast to the west coast might be easier with another person. If you are going to move here alone, check out www.westsiderentals.com for apts. If you are planning on going into the entertainment industry, I would suggest living somewhere on the "westside" of LA, b/c it's closer to the studios and is safer.

I worked as a waitress for three years in LA as I worked through school, which was great b/c I made enough money to pay the rent and the schedule was very flexible. Plus I met many great friends and created a social network. If you can find a job at home working as a hostess or waitress that would give you some experience before moving. If you are pretty smart, with a BA, you can also make extra money as a tutor. (I was being paid $35 an hour to tutor)

You want to save at least $1000 (probably closer to $1500) to pay for your first months rent and deposit. If you are moving alone you might want to consider renting a room from a family (since that tends to be cheaper).
