Wellbutrin has been wonderful for several friends of mine who take it, and there are no sexual side effects. It also helps people quit smoking and often people lose weight on it.

I took Lexapro for over a year. I was on Prozac before that (3 years) and then changed to Effexor (1 year) afterwards. Unfortunately, those type medications have the same sexual side effects, and sometimes quit working after a prolonged use. Effexor did work better than the other two and it actually curbed my appetite as well. I would point out that I was being treated for depression with these medications. Lexapro is an anti-depressant and not usually used for treating anxiety.

If you are having anxiety attacks, I would consider asking your physician to change you to either Xanax or Valium in low doses. You only take the medication when you feel an attack coming on, and it doesn't require a daily dose. The downside is those can be habit forming, meaning if you are needing to use them often you body will become used to the dose and will require more. If you are having occasional anxiety attacks, then they may be the other alternative to the Lexapro. They do not have sexual side effects either. Hope this helps you and good luck.

Have you considered a natural alternative to the anti-depressant Lexapro. In Germany St John's Wort is prescribed by medical doctors for depression. In England you can buy it in health food stores. The only contraindications are that you should not take it with prescribed medication without consulting a doctor as you can get herb-drug interactions. You don't get side effects that are typically associated with known drugs for depression/anxiety. You just have to make sure you put on plenty of sun lotion if you go in the sun as St Johns Wort increases skin sensitivity to sunlight.

I know with all the BIG name meds on the market what I am about to say might sound crazy! Try 25mg benadryl generic name diphenhydramine. Maybe a couple times a day, for acouple of days u might feel alittle drowsy at first but it fades. It has little side affects and works well and to tell u the truth is ALOT cheaper if u r paying for it yourself.

See a psychiatrist to try a different medication and get something that works for you. Your regular doctor is not a mental health professional. Seek out a professional on medications for anxiety. Also see a therapist to help you figure out ways to cope with your anxiety issues. Side effects are different for different people. A change in medication combined with a good therapist is probably all you need.

If anxiety is your only issue, a low dose of xanax may help. It has a bad rep for abuse, but if taken properly it works miracles. I take one tablet three times a day as prescribed. It does make you a bit drowsy at first, but your body will adjust and the only thing you will notice is being calm! And for those of us with true anxiety issues, it's a Godsend. There's also low dose of Klonopin which is longer acting than Xanax. Good luck!

Wellbutrin is the only SSRI with no sexual side effects. Ask your doctor for a two week sample and see if it's a good match for your anxiety.

I cant give you the name of a medication because I'm not a doctor and I think you should talk to a doctor first before thinking about popping other pills. But I can give you a good piece of advice: try to walk at least 30 min. every day. The exercise, air and light will do wonders to your body, soul and sexlife.

You could ask about Paxil (paroxitine). It has some side effects, and some people have concerns about withdrawal, but I have several friends on it and they feel much better and have a lot less anxiety. Ask your doctor.
