contact all the credit companies (equifax, transunion, experian) and put a freeze on your credit report. get a copy of your credit report and start disputing information that is not correct.

This is a very sticky situation. First this you need to do is call the police and let them know what is going on. They won't be able to do much but in order to dispute this info with the credit bureaus you will need a report number.

After that right a letter to the bureaus and dispute all charges that are not yours. When you do this you will need to ask them to flag your credit. Ask them to put a comment on your credit that states "there is fraudulent activity with this SSN and you need to contact you @ your phone number or address directly before the issuance of credit” On every credit report there is an area for comments and this statement will go there. This will make every credit grantor contact you directly before they issue new credit with your SSN.
Lastly you will need to contact each individual creditor individually and tell them what is going on. Dispute all charges and make them take it off your credit. This is probably going to be the hardest part because you will have to convince them to close the accounts and clear your credit. You are going to talk to a lot of people who are just customer service reps and they will tell you what you want to hear. You have to be diligent and follow up with the bureaus and the creditors regularly to make sure this problem gets fixed.

This will be a long process and will be a real pain but you have to stick to it.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Call the Social Security office in your area. There is 2 different criteria for a new Social Security #. The first being in cases of domestic violence the second being your # being used on the behalf of others for fraud. This might be a requirement to clean up all the mess since it had gone on for so long.

You might be a victim of identity theft. In your shoes, I would contact the police.
