It depends on which direction you wish to go. My advice is on diet only. It works 40% (casual)-80%(strict and disciplined personal only) without exercise on my own opinion but you can take it for your own references.
Fruitarianism is a diet of only fruit, nuts, seeds, and other plant matter that can be gathered without harming the plant.
Macrobiotic diet is a diet of mostly whole grains and beans, though it allows the consumption of fish.
Natural hygiene in its classic form recommends a diet principally of raw vegan foods.
Raw food diet practitioners don't eat food heated above a certain temperature.
Raw veganism is a diet of fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, and vegetables.
Freeganism — argues that all commodities produced under capitalism, not only those from animal sources, contribute to exploitation and avoid buying anything, including food. Freegans thus focus on acquiring foods and other commodities by means other than purchasing, including dumpster diving, foraging for wild plants, and gardening with intent to cause as little violence and ecological destruction as possible through their consumption.
While many freegans are vegans or vegetarians, others will eat animal products recovered from dumpsters that would otherwise go to waste on the belief that doing this does not encourage further animal exploitation.
Your tongue need 2 weeks to adjust to the taste of these type of extremely healthy diet. After these period, you will find usual food or fast/oily/meaty food unpleasant. That is when you succeed..All the best!

women don't gain muscle unless you take alot of supplements and weight train everyday with very heavy weight our bodies are not designed to be muscular.So don't even worry bout that,the way i stay in shape is exercise three to four times a week cardio and work out with light weight three times a week.I eat fruits and veggies and beans for protien meat sometimes but only turkey or chicken,or fish stay away from sugar and white bread and thats about it.The exercise i do is tae bo and cardio pilates i have dvds and when i get tired of them i jog around the house for cardio.

It is all in what you eat. I'm 23 years old and After I had a baby I got a personal trainer and she is the best thing that happened to me(behind my baby!).
You have to make sure to eat all 3 meals because if you don't your body will begin to eat itself. It wont eat your body fat either,it goes for the good stuff...muscle!!! Also,eat snacks inbetween! You have to learn the difference between being truly hungry, and being bored and hungry!!
I know it seems like a lot of eating, but keep in mind it's not hungry-man portions!!! Chicken is good,veggies,water.and snacks are as easy as sugar free jello,apples,ect.
Hope this helped a little because it has made a world of a difference for me!!!!!

i would say that the best machines to use to lose weight without gaining a lot of muscle would be an elliptical, bicycle, and treadmill

Anything cardiovascular, which means rowing, cycling, walking, running, skating.....anything that uses stamina rather than strength. Hope this helps.
