I have an almost 3yo boy and he got GeoTrax for Christmas. This is something both boys can play with and can collect peices for years to come. www.fisher-price.com/us/geotrax/default_flash.asp

I got my 3 y/o Godchild an easel. One of the ones that holds the paper on the front side and is a dry erase board behind where the paper is held and the opposite side is a chalk board! It's really cute and she loves it! Another popular gift that she got was things for the summer, she just moved into their new house and it has a pool, so she got bthing suits and pool toys, but she can use them as bath toys til time for summer! (If they have a pool they use frequently-that could be an idea!) Also, one of the elmo dolls that laughs and rolls around on the ground laughing and holding his side (TMX Elmo) is a great gift!
Or an option could always be to get a really awesome gift for the two of them to share, such as a little tykes playset or slide or playhouse! Do they have a wagon? If not they have double seater wagons that are a GREAT gift! I have given that as a gift with a years family pass to the local zoo.
Good luck and be creative!

I would suggest getting them similar gifts, but not the same--such as a megablocks firetruck and wagon (these are about $20 each at Wal-Mart), or two different Little people sets (these range from $6-$40 each, depending on what you get and whether it's an accessory to a set they already have or a new set). You should consider calling their parents and asking what the boys like--my nephew is about 4 months older than my son, but their tastes couldn't be more different!
Other favorites with this age group are balls, crayons/art tools, and blocks. I would not suggest paints, play doh, or other messy craft supplies unless you know that their parents have a place set aside for such things.
Good luck!

I'd bet they are already going to be overwhelmed with toys so how about something that will help them in the future? Try a savings bond. You pay half of the maturity value, so if you spend $25 the bond matures at $50. The kids are only three so they won't know the difference but the parents will and the kids will thank you later in life.

Cars and trucks are a wonderful idea. Remote controlled toys are also really neat. My son got a Thomas train set and a table to keep it on for his third birthday and he loves it!! His birthday was in March and he still plays with his train set daily. The train set is not electrical -- it has battery operated cars, but most of the time they aren't even turned on.

You could get them some toy truck's like the hot wheels just make sure you get them the same ones that way they won't fight over who gets what. Or those toy gun's that they have at wal-mart that make the sounds and light up. (if that kind of thing is okay with the parents) There are ton's of thing's for boys just check the toy department at wal-mart and get them the same things so there's no fighting. I'm sure they'll love what ever you get them.

Fisher Price has the little people sets that are really fun (I got them for my kids at age one and they still play with them (ages 5 and 3). They have a farm, garage, city and dinosaur sets. Fisher Price also has Geo Trax sets that are cars, planes and tranes and construction sets. All of these sets are under $25 at Toys R Us, Target, Walmart and KBtoys.
Plus they have little add on sets to keep adding to the fun. Hope this helps.

Anything with wheels. Boys that age are usually into cars, trucks, motorcycles etc. Matchbox/hotwheels cars are the way to go , 99 cents a piece most times..you could buy each a few of them and not break the bank. My son and nephews never got tired of getting matchbox cars.

Books are always a nice gift that grow with the child, and you would not need to get them the same title. Here is a link to some great children's books:

Do they have a Thomas Train set? There are loads of accessories you could buy for that.

You could get them something to share, like this dinosaur stamp set

Or a nice set of blocks (the best gift ever!)

well, you shouldnt get them the same thing....they are individuals..my girls are 20 months apart and i used to get them the same things, until they told me they didnt like it. You could get them something they can do together, like a board game or some kind of imaginative play. Like fake money and a cash register. Or something for the bathtub. Kids LOVE bath toys!! good luck!
