According to the Greyhound Bus website, they don't allow any pets to be transported on their buses (other than service animals).
As far as cheaper methods of transportation, it usually only costs about $300 or so to ship a dog as cargo through an airline. This sounds expensive, but if you account for all the various expenses associated with other methods of travel, shipping a dog as cargo is usually the cheapest.
Check out this website: http://www.uship.com/
It's where you find individual people willing to transport stuff (including dogs) across the country for a fee. It may be your cheapest option.
Hope this helps...

Ugh, people, don't answer a question if you're going to make things up. There is no way to tell if the 'first stab killed him'. The autopsy hasn't even been completed yet. There has been no evidence to say that the first stab killed this man. Please read the news before you preach what you don't know. In any case - in my opinion the passengers did exactly as anyone else would have done in a situation like that. Vince Weiguang Li WAS acting as though he was in a trance (reportedly), and if someone had tried to stop him they would have gotten the same treatment that this unfortunate man did. In fact, three people did attempt to go back on the bus to try to help the victim, but were threatened with the knife. There's absolutely no reason to fear taking a Greyhound bus because of one isolated incident. It could have happened ANYWHERE at any time and it really upsets me that people seem to take it as some huge breach in security. This guy just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was random, and it was just as likely for something like this to happen anywhere else, not just a bus! Besides, this is a one-of-a-kind freak incident that happened in Canadian history - never happened before - so all of a sudden people are worried it'll happen to them? I'd sooner worry about getting cancer.

You might be able to find a group of people that are taking other dogs. Most airlines will ship a dog if the crate is no larger than a 500. Shipping a large dog, can range from $275 plus taxes on up. You need to get a health certificate done on this dog within 10 days of travel.

No, I believe the reason they named it Grey Hound Bus was to signify quickness, being fast like a Grey Hound. That's it.....

Not sure...I know you can ship an empty crate, but I don't think they allow large animals. Too much liability. I would call and ask, just to make sure.
Is there anyway they can meet you half way? What breed?

Yes. My old boss actually had her rescued greyhound shipped across the country here to Seattle via Greyhound bus. (and he was definitely a LARGE dog!)
