No one could have been a bigger coward than me at the dentists!! I have in fact run screaming from the surgery, and he hadn't even startedI ! had a sedating pill, ( I don't remember what it was) and he could have cut my head off and I wouldn't have cared !!
I am now cured, and have extractions and not felt a thing, in fact I thought the dentist was just getting a bigger tool and it was out.
Just like that
Nobody likes the dentist, but modern systems are almost painless. The worst thing, is the scaling process

New safe oral dental sedation techniques mean that you can have dental treatments done quickly with little or no discomfort.
If you are nervous or fearful about dental treatment, sedation can help relax you, making your experience more pleasant and pain free
the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has performed research on this method and found that the sedation is safe but only if the dentist is proffessional.
patient on who is under sedation can feel little pain after one days but its not a matter of worry. however there also possibilities that patient can feel nausea just because he or she is hungry but after having food its become normal.

Obviously some people did not really read your post and are under the impression you will be getting local. Sedation is so much better and comfortable. I had it done for fillings and cleaning and remember not a thing just being woken up to hear it is over.Local injections you ay feel pressure and have to alert the dentist to numb you more. Go for the sedation, that is why it is more costlier.

had this done on Tuesday! Best experiance! I remember going in, getting the IV (which did not hurt at all). He told me I would start feeling woozy.. As he had his assistant put an oxygen mask over my mouth and told me to take deep breaths ... And then I woke up in the recovery room! I don't remember anything. You may have some pain after the procedure but depending on what they do they may give you something for pain or just use over the counter. I couldn't do dental work any other way. I expressed my fears and the doctor who puts you out was very reassuring and comforting.

ok if its Intravous sedation then ur not knocked out, most comman used drug is midazolam. Plus sides to this drug is that it takes all memory of the procdure away, worst bit for you will be getting the cannula injected into either the back of you hand or hollow of ur elbow. U can still communicate, and ur dental team will be communicating with u at all times, if you feel pain they will know, we are trained to watch out for things. As for what it feels like i dont know, im a dental nurse and what they teach us and what pt's say is a feeling of floating, drunkeness, u'll be fine, there is honestly nothing to worry about... u might actually enjoy it!!!

It depends upon the level of sedation, usually they will freeze the area and dope you up really well. You won't be feeling a thing until after everything wear off. However Even then depending upon the treatment it shouldn't be too bad.
If you are really nervous talk to your dentist about getting a sedative to take before the appointment.

With sedation you will be aware of the sensation of touch but you will not feel pain. The sedation will be administered by a small cannulae in the back of your hand. You will recover promptly and not have the residual groggy affect that general anaesthesia can leave you with. Try not to worry, you'll be fine.
Best wishes, J

When done correctly you feel no pain with sedation dentistry that is what it is for. It will unfortunatley hurt when you go home and the pain killers wear off but that depends on what you are having done you may get pain pill prescribed but during the proceedure there should not be any pain just relax and think happy thoughts

You won't feel anything, you may not even rember most of it, as you will be pretty out of it. Make sure you have someone to pick you up after, as driving is out of the question. I got all 4 wisdom teeth removed in 1 sitting while sedated......I rember counting down. then waking up, it seemed like 5-10 minutes that I was there......even though it was quite some time. you will feel fine.

If you are completely sedated you won't feel anything and you more than likely won't remember anything either! If they are just giving you a pill like Halcion, then it will relax you and some people don't remember much from that either. Good luck, I hope all goes well.
