It is actually just as healthy to drink from the tap as from bottled water. All the same minerals and chemicals are in both. I have some exprience testing chemical compounds in water supplies, and suprisingly bottled water lacks some nutrients only found in hard tap water. So you would be better served drinking from the tap, as long as you are not drawing from a well system. In that case boil your water and then bottle it and refrigerate.

YES, YES, YES it is unhealthy, from any tap. Tap water not only contains residues of metals the pipes run through, but it is full of toxic chemicals. Most people dont believe this, but I have done EXTENSIVE research on it. If you drink tap water, it is water that has been pooped in! It is sanitized, purified, bleached, and recycled. Many bottled waters, especially if they are marked "purified" means it is nothing more than tap water with EXTRA chemicals in it. It is best to use steam distilled or spring water. Many will say I am wrong about this, but it was even on Oprah recently about the poop water!

It hasn't killed any of the people I know who do this. The general rule is that if you live in a rural area with well water, it's probably too dangerous. My grandparents can't drink their tap water because of this. City water supplies are usually okay.

It matters on where the tap water comes from and what you are comparing it to. I don't really think it is that bad, but it can never hurt to put a filter on your tap.
